Progress update on Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Assigned by Dessimu

I played quite a bit today and must say: I am very positively surprised. For a game which is almost my age, it has aged quite well in my opinion, both graphically and gameplay-wise.

As it is pointed out in the manual, there is a point in this game where you have to choose one of three paths: Team, Fists or Wits. It is stated that these paths differ in their puzzles and places to visit. I was honestly surprised to see such replayability in an adventure game, especially of this age.

I have just reached this point and chose the Team path after having found the Lost Dialogue of Plato. So far my travels have brought me to Maya ruins in the jungles of Guatemala, arctic Iceland, the beautiful Azures and New York City. My next stop will be Algiers. :)

But honestly, whoever came up with the name of "Dr Ubermann" for the evil Nazi scientist... well, it's Indiana Jones, after all. ;)

Up to now I am enjoying this game and I am looking forward to my further journeys! :)

I played quite some more in the last few days. I visited Algiers, Monte Carlo and Crete, got onto a Nazi submarine and have finally reached the fabled lost city of Atlantis. So I am supposedly nearing the end.

I am having very much fun with this title. The puzzles appear fair, but gog has provided the hintbook for when you get stuck, which I already had to use a few times.
Sometimes you have to backtrack a little bit to fetch an item you forgot, which can be quite cumbersome at times, as there is apparently no possibility to skip walking sequences or dialogue options.

Nevertheless, up to now I can recommend this game to anyone! :)
Another progress update on Might and Magic III:

All my characters are between level 30 and 36 now and the game got a lot easier, because of that.

I was able to clear the last dungeons (Cyclops Cavern and Cathedral of Carnage) without resting and even the boss fight were very easy.
The Cyclops Cavern was a little boring and didn't give much rewards except for some XP and some Ancient Artifacts (which give even more XP). The Cathedral of Carnage was much more interesting and it had some nice puzzles which I had to sole to get two Ultimate power orbs. I also found gems there that gave one character permanent +50 on speed, accuracy and luck.

I'm still not able to kill the minotaur in the swamplands, but I have a strategy now that can at least hurt him.
I remember that requiring for level up in later game of MM3 is more gold than experiences.
This game really expensive to training characters in later.

I would also like to join in the party!
Just finished Temple of Elemental Evil and Touchlight, and I don't decide what to playing the next yet.so it's a good opportunity to join in.

My backlog are...

Neverwinter Nights (3 Official modules are already finished, I consider playing user module the Aielund Saga)
Sea Dogs (I like pirate games!)
Saints Row 2 (I've played twice and both quit for some reason)
Fallout Tactics (bought the bundle and FO1 and 2 were finished but this game only remind untouched)
Dead State (a free gift from GOG. user reviews are rather negative)

Also the witcher 2 is in backlog, but I don't want to playing it now because I quit the game twice.Perhaps in few months(year?) later I will play again.

As I have not yet played any of the games in your backlog, I will simply choose one of those five at will. Therefore, I suggest Fallout Tactics to finish the series for you.
Have fun and share your experiences with us! :)

The suggestion accepted. I'll play tutorials in the game, which is a decent for that kind of game.
I've finished Jagged Alliance 2 in last year, so not difficult to understand the game system of tactical-RPGs.

As I thought yesterday, I was quite near the end of the game - so today, gentlemen, I can proudly say that I finished my first assigned game! :)
Indiana Jones was definitely a worthwhile experience and a very good point-and-click adventure - thanks Dessimu, an excellent first pick! It took me roughly 15 hours to complete. There is even still the possibility to pursue the two different paths which I haven't chosen! But this will be a task for some other time... ;)

So, onto the next game! Which shall it be? :)

Well done!

I think you should play Age of Wonders next. Started it myself some weeks ago. Haven't played a lot of it (because I'm still busy playing Might and Magic III), but so far I like it very much. Hope you'll enjoy it too.

Excellent! I was very interested in following your adventure. Made me excited to play the game sooner than expected. Maybe trying a different path too! I am happy to have made a good choice! And thank you for all the progress updates!

Another matter at hand would be that I finally need to make an update on Blackguards. Soon. Shortly I can say that I enjoy the game a lot, it surprised me.
Progress report on Might and Magic III:

Things you shouldn't do while clearing Greywind dungeon:

a) Try to pick up the fake treasures
b) Use the gongs

The first one made me lose all my money, which was more than 4 million gold. Fortunately I have another 8 million in the bank in Fountain Head and so it isn't that bad.
The second one summonened a bunch of Great Hydras. I tried to fight one and was able to kill it, but half my party died and the other half escaped barely alive.

I will return to that dungeon once I've fixed my equipment, revived the dead and healed the injured. And then I will have my revenge.

The 1st progress update on Fallout Tactics.
My three party (me(assault type), medic, sniper) beat the first mission with relatively few damage. no one died.
This game has 3 mode in the battle system. The RTS mode and the turn based battle(which also divided into individual and squad.Similar to Fallout 1,2).
At first I tried the RTS mode as the game suggested but it's a terrible and frustrating, so before tying the next mission I changed the setting to turn based individual mode and it was quite better.
I hired another 3 guys and girls(another sniper and 2 assaults) in the base. So total number is now 6 members which is the max number of the party.
The 2nd mission was harder. I killed many raiders..This mission seems to suggest stealth moves, I disliked that type of mission, so just I killed everybody on sight. lol.
By the way, my party don't have any melee fighter type because I realized that was suck in the game.Guns dominate the wasteland.

Blackguards :: Progress update 1
Assigned by PaterAlf

I have played the game for a few days after I was kindly suggested to play it. So far I like all The Dark Eye games and I was excited to try Blackguards. For some unholy and unknown reason I used to treat this game like a behemoth, as if it was too big for my taste. Can't really explain the feeling. But... Thank you, PaterAlf!

My expectations were starting to fulfill themselves from the very beginning of the game. Laptop could run it nicely, without a lag and without starting to heat too much. Then it was the appearance of the game, the looks. From the first gaze I was heavily reminded of Drakensang games. Those are beautiful! If you guys ever get your hands on Drakensang, play it or at least, try it. No regrets, only sometimes it will feel like pain to run a long way to fetch something and sometimes combat can prove too much challenging.

Back to Blackguards... It reminded me of Drakensang - the mood, the looks, even the character's appearance and the way they sound. Creating a character, I chose expert mode as I am familiar with the sort and if possible, I love to make my own decisions. Even if they turn out to be bad. I chose to have the ability to wield magic. Chose to wield stave (staff?) and one handed sword. I thought that in case of close combat, I would switch to sword and shave enemy's beard. By the way, I did not know how the combat was to be played...

Game started. The first visual scene (do you call it cut scene?) left me surprised, interested, a lot of mystery and I became sort of a framed criminal, seeking revenge. The game started in prison from which I was supposed to run away. What I was surprised and still don't understand, is WHY did I have to choose my starting gear at character creation if I never got a chance to use it?! Anyway, a dwarf busted me out, I got somewhat familiar on how to play turn based combat. Also I realized that there are formulas and random rolls that my actions depend on. In other words, I always see a percentage of success to land any attack. And this percentage can be manipulated by changing my distance from the enemy (depends on what weapon I use), changing the weapon and many other things. I also learned that changing a weapon in combat (I can have three sets ready) costs me a turn, so most of the times it is NOT effective. And then I realized that my choice to wield sword was a bust.

In combat it is also possible (not always) to use surroundings for my advantage. Depending on what is present in the battlefield, I may hide behind a tall object, so that enemies with ranged attack could not shoot me or would miss more easily, but same applies for my attacks. I may also turn tables to provide some cover. If there are stacked wooden boxes on top of each other, I may drop them to the side and thus, I might even get an enemy (or myself) trapped under them. Or I may crash them boxes, so my path would be free. If I crash the boxes with a torch or fire magic, they will burn. Anyone who steps on them, takes damage. Some things (most of the times), like rocks of various size, can't be moved, but they still can prove useful. You would encounter a wood troll from time to time and that bastard takes not one square to walk on, but seven. So I may run through thin passages and the troll would have to go around. THere are many more things that might be on battlefield. Bee hives, swamps that you or enemy can get stuck into, swamp that explode if fire touches them (deals massive damage), just ponds of water that if a person steps onto, he slips, treasure chests, mushrooms to collect, some other interactive things.

Enemies are very different. So it always requires you to use your wit to get ready and then make a good strategy as the combat progresses. Strategy and abilities means a lot. After every battle you get some sort of reward. You may take it or not. You may take more things than you can endure to carry, but in combat you would have a penalty for moving. In towns you can always heal yourself, heal injuries and sell stuff. If certain NPCs are available. I tend to visit the city after almost every combat. Because every point of health, every point of mana, everything is precious, no matter what you fight. And healing yourself in town is MUCH cheaper and more effective than buying health potions and healing yourself in combat.

Story is involving, characters are amazing. They have strong personalities and believe me, as the game progresses, your point of view on each character will change like the wind.

By the way, after I got familiar with the combat and my skills, I restarted the game from beginning. This time I chose to master staves (staffs) and bows. Still with magical abilities.

That is it for now. I shall make another progress update after I play more.

Cheers!

First of all: Thank you all so much for your progress updates! I very much enjoy reading them! :)

Sadly, I did not have much time to play as of late - I basically played the tutorial and have just finished the first mission of the Keeper campaign, which are supposedly the good guys. ;)

So far the game feels clumsy, especially the UI, yet graphically still tolerable. At first sight, I felt slightly disappointed as I somewhat expected a game more in the style of Heroes of Might & Magic, but I think this is due to me failing horribly in my first tries of the campaign mission.
There are some notable differences between the two games though, for instance your units can gather experience and level up and you can take units, gold and mana from one mission to into another. City managment also feels more like Civilization and armies might move without the need of a hero. ;)
I am not yet fully convinced that this title is right for me, but I am also willing to try harder! :)

Let's see how my adventures continue!

*pokes head in the men's club*

I've got more than 200 games unplayed in my backlog, and lately I'm trying to buy less and play more. I think this thread is a great idea. I'm in the middle of three games right now, but once I'm done with them and in a lull, I'll pop back in here for some encouragement. :) I have heard and used backloggery before, but I prefer to just put shortcuts to all of my games in Steam (don't hurt me) and have different categories like "want to play" and "need to play". Anyway, you can do it all! <3
