Bear with me here, I don't know if this is an old discussion already, but I only just realized that the official name of this Capcom classic was never "Ghosts 'n' Goblins" like I always thought, in the vein of "Guns 'n' Roses", not even "Ghosts 'n Goblins", but that covers and game menu actually seemed to say "Ghosts'n Goblins". The Wikipedia even has some promotional flyer that says "Ghost'n Goblins".

But I couldn't find any info about this odd spelling yet. Does anyone here know something about the history of the name? Who came up with it, the Japanese publishers themselves or native English speakers? Was it actually meant to mean "Ghosts and Goblins" or "Ghosting Goblins"? Was the spelling intentional to make it special or just clue- or carelessness? Or am I missing something here as a non-native English speaker?
IMHO there is no one correct way of spelling abbreviations like that, so either form is allowed and means the same. Like, you can write "jack o' lantern" or "jack o'lantern".

Interesting. Thanks for the link!

I see I was also mistaken about the official spelling of Guns N' Roses then. It still seems a bit confusing to me to write "ghosts'n" instead of "ghosts 'n", as if the "and" was closer to the first than the second word, but if it's comparable to "Jack O'Lantern" (does the O stand for "of"?), I guess I'll just have to accept it as an oddity of the English language/spelling.
