Max Payne 3. I was looking forward for a good action game and got the "cinematic" adventure where player had less to do and less initiative than in old Virtua Cop series. I literally deleted it from my Xbox 2 hours after spending plenty of money.

Like a week or so before GOG got World in Conflict I bought it at HPB for not much. Now, while I like having the physical copy around, I installed it and couldn't get it to work so now I have to buy their version anyway (was going to probably even if mine did work) and I have the ugly "With Soviet Assault expansion" case instead of the cool original.

I do not regret Halo: Combat Evolved... I regret spending 20 dollar on a game I don't like that much of. What I do like is great, but it's not quite half of the game time. Ten dollars may have been different, but twenty is too much. Thankfully, all my other Halo games so far have been gifts, so I don't regret buying Halo 2, just playing it.

Edit: Mislead, it says with the Original game, not Soviet Assault, which is in the game title.

Only game I have ever regretted buying enough to sell it back to a store is Until Dawn. The Japanese version has been butchered to the point it's unplayable after the first half of the game.

RE6 (even as someone with a high-tolerance for bad games picking this one up on sale was not worth it at all)

slacker-backing Dreamfall (was away from gaming for awhile due to various factors and never received a gog key... contacting later netted 0 replies)

Watch_Dogs (had some fun with it, but primarily used it to keep comp heat raised when a fan bearing took a shit in my psu and was loud as fuck; to maintain my sanity)

Too many indies and indie bundles to list

Mirror's Edge (motion sickness is a blast)

Legend of Grimrock (fuck spiders sooooooo much)

Amnesia the Dark Descent (the motion blur and shit is horrible)

Dead Island (even my love of gore and zombies couldn't bring me to finish that game)

Banjo Kazooie gba game (idr the title)

Assassin's Creed Revelations (that franchise nosedive)

That said considering the sheer number of games I've purchased, pre-ordered, and played there really haven't been that many regrets in the grand scheme of things.

A few:

-Majority of bundles from Humble Bundle and a few other sites. I pretty much just stopped buying them due to 99% of them only having one game I'm genuinely interested in, while the other stuff offered I already have or don't care about. The only exception I'm willing to make are bundles on GOG for a game series they have (like a RollerCoaster Tycoon bundle).

-Dead Island. I played it for about 6 hours, and uninstalled it after that. Customizing weapons was nice and all, but everything else about this game was a clunky borefest.

-Hatred. Turns out one of the most "violent" and "controversial" titles of 2015 is incredibly tame and boring twin-stick shooter. How the hell did this mediocre game get an AO rating? I found the overreaction to the whole thing more entertaining than the game itself.

There are a few other gaming things I regret buying, but those were the only major ones I could remember.

I thought the situation with shovelware wasn't a problem on Nintendo's online store for the Wii. Wow, I'm really surprised that even Nintendo's had this problem too.

Nintendo Wii, the system that brought you Data Design Interactive and Ninjabread Man. It was such a problem it spilled over into physical share too.
I stopped buying bundles after it turned out most of the games showing up weren't even free to download. (Steam Key only, etc.). Right around Humble Bundle Android II.

As for Hatred, that's a classic Hype Train crash. I warned people that it looked like a steamer, but nobody listened.

1. In the late 90s or early 2000s I bought a complete steering wheel + pedals driving system which was supposed to be compatible both with PC and PS1/PS2 games. My idea would be to use it with console driving games like Gran Turismo series, as well as PC racing sims like Grand Prix Legends and some Formula One simulations.

I'm not even sure why I never used it properly, was there some issue getting it to work, or was it just the huge size and desk space it took. I think I still have it in my basement, unused. I played racing games with a PC joystick, and Gran Turismo games with a gamepad. I think I am getting better lap times that way than trying to use that steering wheel system.

2. Similarly, in the 90s I bought some higher end HOTAS throttle stick to be used with Falcon 3.0 and other PC flight simulators. In the end it didn't work that great though, it felt unnecessarily clunky for controlling the mere throttle (instead of just pusing + and - on your keyboard, or even using that little throttle lever that joysticks have), and I think I had problems adding all the keyboard functions I wanted into it, so that it would really be true HOTAS system, as in that I would never have to raise my hands from the sticks during the gameplay. Fat chance.

3. Quite a few Steam games I've later bought on GOG. I regretted buying the Steam version that is, as in my eyes the GOG version made them obsolete for me.

I don't buy a lot of games but even then I regret buying a lot of them :P last one was Crisis 2 85% off, I wanted something to give my new Geforce 960 a workout but the game was a big meh.
