I find it hard to believe that gaming makes you go blind. Much like people say sitting too close to the TV makes you blind, or masturbation makes you go blind. I think it's just one of those things people say to get couch potatoes up and moving.
Now the brightness of the screen itself might be a problem, but I think it's only because so many people play in the dark. My eyes are so sensitive to it I can't even drive at night because of the headlights coming from the opposite direction literally blind me. If I play games or watch TV at night I keep a light on because all that light focused from a single point just hurts my eyes then gives me a headache. But If I keep an extra light source on, I have no problems.
http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/fact-fiction-myths-about-eyes Website above claims that sitting too close to a TV will NOT damage your vision, so really gaming shouldn't affect it either. Then again, they change what's good and what bad for you every year it seems. This year gluten is good, next year it's bad and so on. Each person is different and is affected differently by things. Improvise, adapt, and game on.
In this following article from 2010, it even claims gaming may be IMPROVING your vision and other brain functions.
