There's a lot to be said about the Discworld series of books and mainly one thing to be said about the Discworld adventure game. Namely, do I need to have hit myself over the head with some dwarf bread for the puzzles to make sense?

Yes.
Or play Discworld Noir instead. Out of the three, it has the most logical puzzles.
I'd still love to see them here, just for nostalgia and preservation reasons.

Oh yes, they are more Discworld, and one can never have enough Discworld. But they didn't have very logical puzzles.

dont remind me
you mostly play them if you are a fan of discworld not because the puzzles are any good just insane
I found the first one borderline unplayable because of the insanity of the puzzles. And I consider myself a reasonably good adventure gamer. I'd love to see a remake of those first two, with some sensible hint system implemented, so that I can play it without outright reading a walkthrough the whole time. Noir was defiantely better. I'm not going to pretend I finished it without using a walkthrough, but at least I didn't rely on it constantly (and I think today I'd stand a reasonable chance of using it even less).
