Delixe: It's the 21st anniversary of Golden Axe and Sega are celebrating by giving it away for free on Gamersgate for 3 days starting tomorrow. Link
Holy Crap! I was a master at Golden Axe (US arcade) back in the day. I don't think the Genesis port holds up all that well, but I will definitely have to get it.

Here's an interesting tip (Arcade only, I think): If you get stuck in a place too long, the game kills off the original minion and sends in two black-shaded bad guys as level bosses. In this case, I was in turtle village by the shack (on the other side of which there's a dragon), but the red guy got stuck on the building somehow. After a while (5 minutes) he croaked, and two black baddies came out as bosses. They were hard to beat because of the narrow enclosure. After we beat them the level was over. Just wondering if anyone else had seen it.

angstrom: Wow looks like a sweet deal. However do they have the expansions for Alien Shooter 1? The GOG page boasts that it has the expansions Alien Shooter: Fight for Life and Alien Shooter: The Experiment. If you want everything do they not include these on GamersGate?
The Gamersgate pack does not include the Alien Shooter expansions.

However, buy it anyway. Alien Shooter 2 is fantastic and is easily worth more than $3 on its own. You also get Zombie Shooter, which I personally think is the weakest of the bunch, but still worth a play.

Maybe it's free, but Shadow Dancer was free on GamersGate a little while back as well, and Space Harrier II before that. Those all sound like pretty good deals, and I did nab the other two up, but those three games, and 27 others, had already been available for quite a while from Greenman Gaming for $6. It's back at the usual price now, in case you missed out. To be fair, somebody else already mentioned it here, that's how I found out about it! XD

Plus, you know, Golden Axe was in Sega Genesis Collection and Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. I don't think this news is "Holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" worthy. :P

I already own the game, numerous times, but, you know, no reason to pass up a free thing! I don't do the whole social networking thing, so if somebody could post today's code here, that'd be great.

It maybe already available and in fact I already have the Megadrive classics packs however i'm sure some don't and at the end of the day a free game is a free game. Besides the "Holy shit" worthy news is Golden Axe being 21 years old. Some of us remember playing it in the arcade and now feel very old indeed.

Like you said, it's free even though it typically costs less than $4, bundle or not. Free childhood game is still free.

These days, you should feel old if you've ever even played an arcade. Today's kids think Robotron 2084 can be played properly with analog sticks. Actually, they don't even know that game exists. If you showed them a paddle controller, you'd probably confuse the hell out of them. Also, they think anime wasn't brought to the west until the 90's... or perhaps even later.... *shudder*.

...oh, and stay far away from the ones who think RPG's didn't become popular until FFVII, and that Aeris' death was the first ever death of a party member in an RPG. They are a scary breed, but thankfully are incapable of human contact outside of forums.

Also, I'm still interested in that Golden Axe code. I haven't seen anybody post it yet, here or elsewhere, but I don't care enough to make an account. (...and sparing anybody else here from making an account is a very good deed, to be sure.)

It's Decemeber and as a very special treat we're giving away a copy of an absolute classic in every sense of the word - GOLDEN AXE! As always we've teamed up with GamersGate to give away a PC digital copy of one of our classic Mega Drive/Genesis titles to you every month FOR FREE. This month I'm going to put up all three days codes on here, mainly as I'm not sure if I'll be about tomorrow and Satruday, but at least they'll all be in the same place then.

To claim your copy of Golden Axe, what you need to do is go to the GamersGate offer page and input the code. You will need to signup for an account if you don't already have one with GamersGate in order to complete the transaction. It should be working as of now.

Go to: http://www.gamersgate.com/sega-giveaway and input the following redemption code:

Thursday 16th :GIVE-SEGA-GAXE-F8H43
Friday 17th: GIVE-SEGA-GAXE-32LN2
Saturday 18th: GIVE-SEGA-GAXE-96PDB

Codes will be active from 9AM (UK Time) for 24 hours.

Don't forget they also hold a lot of other SEGA digital titles from £2/$3 - why not pick up another memory whilst you're at it?

Merry Christmas!
GamersGate's daily deal is Star Wolves 3 (70% off)

And thanks nmillar for the SEGA info!
