With Gish $1 essentially today on steam, why not just buy Gish directly off their site for min $1?

GameRager: So it started at around 5 dollars then per month? Still, I imagine as the game has content added to it and as more and more people are loaded onto the game's single server they have to charge more to cover the better hardware and newer content and other costs.

At least it's a bit cheaper than WOW, and hopefully it'll stay the same for awhile.
No, I meant in ingame money, sorry. 3 years ago you could buy 1 month of gametime for around 90 million ISK, now it's 380 million.
Don't forget that the Deathspank "sequel" is out in a few days so it might me more interesting to buy in during the holiday sales (bundle anyone ?).

I was interested in Batman but, come on, Steam + Securom 5 activations + Windows Live for an offline game. I'll pass.

Is that how it is? Even with 5 activations, you can ask for more if you run out by contacting steam. Also, if still bothers you you can crack out the securom and activation limit with a no disc exe. I think the windows live might still be applicable though.

Do agree it's quite a combo.

Steam DRM thread lists 4 activations per month btw for Batman

"Batman: Arkham Asylum; 4 activations per month. Revoke tool is in your Steam Tools section."

1. Securom
2. Activation Limits
3. Games for Windows

No matter how good the game is, this is an overkill.

Crassmaster: Hmmm...kind of tough for me to recommend anything without knowing a bit more about where your interests lie. What scale of strategy do you like, are you a fan of/not a fan of micromanagement, any particular historical periods you have more interest in, real time vs. turn based and so on? Help me narrow this down a bit.

I generally have no problem recommending the AGEOD titles (Birth of America & the sequel, AGEOD"s American Civil War, World War One Gold) to people. The Close Combat remakes hold up pretty well (aside for graphics). Between the simpler Armada 2526 and the more in depth Distant Worlds, I suspect anyone who is a fan of Space 4X games can find something they like.

Al1: Again, my apologies for such a general question in the first place. I enjoy the Paradox grand strategy games (Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings etc), I am more of a fan of turn based games, although I consider the above Paradox games as turn based in so far as they allow me to pause to think about my next move. Having said that, I am also a die hard fan of the original atomic close combat games, and I had no idea that there were new ones. You say remakes, are they just the same game rereleased? I have no real preference for time period. 4x games are a minor passion of mine.

Sorry, reading that back has made me think that this probably will not be all that helpful.
No, that helps. :)

The Close Combat re-releases are the same basic game, but with some additions. The newer ones have night turns with limited visibility and flares as another support items that can be called in like arty or air support. They have updated OOB's and a bunch of changes under the hood as well. The best part is that they each also include the original game they're based off of, so you can still play all of the mods out there for the originals. Cross of Iron is CC3, Wacht am Rhein is CC4 and The Longest Day is CC5.

If you like space games, Distant Worlds might be right up your alley. Plenty of depth, but with a design that has the AI take as much (or as little) as you want it to.

Forge of Freedom sounds like a game you might enjoy (I'm looking at picking it up this year). It's a Civil War title with as much or as little complexity as you want.

I've also read that Empires in Arms is quite a detailed title, so you might want to check that out.

Definitely check out Crown of Glory : Emperor's Edition. Fantastic game. Again, the complexity can be set to your liking, and the turn based naval battles are a lot of fun.

The Operational Art of War III covers every conflict from Napoleon to the near future. There are a ton of user campaigns and scenarios that go a lot further than that. Tons of content.

If you really want to jump in to the ridiculously detailed deep end of the pool, check out War in the Pacific : Admiral's Edition. I've said it before and I'll say it again : that game scares me.

Ubisoft drm is overkill. This is merely excessive. It's similar for my retail Mirror's Edge copy. Securom, activation limits and if you buy the DLC like I finally did, you also need EADM. For Batman, Securom and activation limits would have been enough. Needing GWFL client seems pointless. It's not a client where you have to login so why the extra drm that serves no real purpose other than to annoy.

Metro09: I don't want to go off topic and start a litany of posts like this -- but do we typically use this thread to organize pack 'buy-ins?' If so (<_<) I'd be interested in Puzzle Quest 2 and possibly Just Cause 2. The bulk of those packs are pretty overwhelming but hat's off to anyone willing to organize it.

prakaa: I'm in for Just Cause 2. Say if you buy it, how can I transfer the money to you? I don't have paypal..
Nah, wouldn't be me -- I don't use paypal. Was just bemoaning the inconvenience of these 10 packs.
Picked up the indie pack. I was hoping Recettear would go on sale for €5-7.50, getting even more games for the same price is just great. I already have Gish though, and Puzzle Agent on my iPhone.

Not that I am complaining...

I'd probably be in for Just Cause 2 depending on how much it is, but I dunno if I'd be the one to buy the pack itself.
Mount and Blade Warband might be interesting but seeing it's a 6-pack I doubt the sale will be particularly high and I can wait.

Maybe Trine, even though I passed on it so many times already ...

Think Daily sales will be my hope xD
