Do GamersGate games have some hard copy protection (the ones labeled DRM-free)? I know they have some kind of activation or something?
I want to get a game or two from there. I'm asking because it is quite possible that later I'll make a custom installer of that game (for example, with added mods and stuff like that).
Is it just one-time online activation, and then I am free to do whatever I want?
Once the downloader app is finished, it will roll in to an installation program. So to install the game, you do need the app (which needs a GG server connection). However, for 99% of the games on the service, there is a simple workaround to avoid that. Once it's done downloading (and BEFORE you install it!) you copy the numbered folder inside the Gamersgate Temporary Files folder (which will be located at whatever download location you chose) elsewhere. That way, the Install program will remain in the form of an executable file even after the app is done running, letting you install the game in the future without needing a server connection.
