Is vanilla worth it?
Conflicted. Yes, Gal Civ 2 vanilla is worth $10, but it's an underhanded sale. The expansion packs (2) add fantastic content, so if you enjoy GC, you're going to want them. Here's the case I'm imagining:

1. Buy Gal Civ 2 vanilla for $10.
2. Play it, love it, want the expansions.
3. Discover that each expansion is $20.
4. Grow resentful.

I got the complete one for 9.99 and it has happened quite a few times. So if you are not in a hurry wait for it.

From what I've read on a few strategy gaming forums, yes.

You may want to check out the new Iron Cross expansion for HoI2 Doomsday Armageddon OR Arsenal of Democracy, too. Totally new map with a ton of new provinces, totally rebuilt tech tree, totally new AI, and a bunch of depth changes.

don't forget that usually the people who complain about new versions are people who want the game more complicated and dry.

And don't forget that people that generalize like this are often wrong.

Also, in the specific case of Hearts or Iron 3, the new version is the most complicated and dry version, not the older Hearts of Iron 2/Arsenal of Democracy, so your "suggestion" doesn't apply. You might want to check your facts next time. ;-)

I really wouldn't recommend buying Sacred 2. If you're running anything other than Win XP, you're going to find it a real pain to install and chances are high that it won't work. The expansion pack (not available from Impulse), fixes some of those issues for Vista, but even then, getting the game to run on Win 7 can be difficult and very time consuming.

If you do decide to get it anyway, be aware that you will need to reinstall Open AL and PhysX due to the installer forcing the installation of older versions that results in corruption.
