Wolfox: Foil conversions basically change the card textures to a mettalic finish. It looks nice, but it isn't worth money, IMO. YMMV.

bansama: I'm just curious. I certainly won't be buying the game. The demo saw to that -- it was just far too annoying for me. Perhaps because I don't know what I'm doing, but also because the AI is bloody annoying no matter the difficulty setting =/
Here's a still image. It's the best I can show, considering that I don't have any foil conversions (it shows that as a preview of sorts). Also, the metallic finish has a hue animation that can't be translated to still images, but still it looks nice. You might be able to find some Youtube video that shows it, I guess.

Vogel's having a 25% discount on his game collections, which includes the Geneforge Saga and Avernum collections. It's tempting, but since he'd said that the CDs are just going to be shipped in a cardboard sleeve...

Meh.

Well, I've tried to like the game. I really have. But it's apparent that (at least with the demo) there's a serious problem with the AI as well as the difficulty settings. I don't see how in one session I can breeze through the first 3 duels on the Planeswalker difficulty setting and then on subsequent sessions, on the same difficulty setting, playing the same first duel with the same deck, fail to win it 10 times in a row.

Would having access to all the decks from the start make it any easier or is it just pure luck as to whether you win or lose against the AI (as it feels right now)?

Dude, this is probably the best Magic game since the original Win95 Magic: The Gathering game.

Yes, you will feel at times that it's unbalanced (I miss the first 3-4 editions, after that they started bringing in a bit too many random things) but this is an absolute blast to play once you really 'get it'.

Basically, if you can't win, change decks. Keep doing so until you find one that works against the enemy's style... Once you really understand WHAT works, you'll be set.

It's like Canasta, you CAN play it the first time, but seasoned players KNOW what to look for... If that makes sense? Just hang on in there, trust me, you'll *click* soon enough and be like "FUCK YEAH C'MERE!"

:edit: YES. Access to all decks is a must if you want to really PLAY PROPERLY. Get the whole package deal at Steam... It's really cheap and worth it.

It's 50% off the base price which is $9.99. The membership discount of 30% is not applied at the same time.

And when did you get that code? That was sent to me on Sept. 22nd and it was listed as being valid for only 24 hours.
Is there anything worth buying on BFG as compared to other DD outlets? The only title I was interested in getting there was Aveyond, until it spawned several other sequels too on Gamersgate.

(not a rhetorical question btw, I'm really looking for recommendations)

Check the prices. If you're member of Big Fish, you'll pay $6.99 per game (excluding the "daily deal" which is only $2.99) and if you buy 6* games per month you'll get a coupon code for a free game at the start of the next month.

* Those 6 games can be 6 standard games, 3 standard games and one collector's edition, or two collector's editions. Also, the use of the monthly credit (which is the cost of one game) and any coupons -- including the one you earn for buying 6 games -- also count towards the 6 games).

So, if you're interested in buying casual games, they tend to be cheapest on Big Fish (as they usually sell for $9.99 to $19.99 elsewhere).

In the case of Aveyond, the games sell for $9.95 on GamersGate. $9.99 for non-members on BFG or $6.99 for members. The pack price on GamersGate is $44.95 saving you 10% in comparison to the price of buying them individually on GamersGate.

As a member of Big Fish, the same five games will be $34.95, which is $10 cheaper than the GamersGate compilation pack.

DRM wise, GamersGate versions are using SecuROM and Big Fish versions are tied to their client. So there's very little difference there.

So if it were me, I'd go for buying them on Big Fish to not only save at least $10, but to also get the 5 points towards another free game.
Supreme Commander Gold for $15 on Impulse, worth it?

Well worth it. But keep in mind that it's generally pretty cheap wherever you buy it.

I'm not sure if it's worth $15 but you might want to know that it's only $10 for the UK (£4.99) so if cross-region gifting is possible on Impulse you might want to find someone in the UK to gift it to you so you can save an extra $5.

Everything Virama said, except no, you don't need access to all of the decks immediately. There's enough variety that you are able to beat any deck with most of the decks available -- some opponents may prove much harder than others with a particular deck, in which case, yes, you should switch.

I'll give you a similar example to your case, where I fought the last opponent (Vampire deck) about 10 times and lost. It's an extremely well-built deck that pretty much strangles at every turn you while he goes about his business. But then I tried the white deck with no cards unlocked and did better than I did with my green or white/blue decks with all cards unlocked. I then proceeded to fully unlock the white deck and toasted him the first try.

Think of it as any RPG -- using the same tactics, spells, etc. on every opponent will see you lose frequently. You have to know what works -- that's what the entire game is about.

If you find one deck particularly effective against an opponent (white deck is great against tri-color decks because it's so fast and theirs is so slow in comparison -- even better if they don't have flying creatures), I recommend playing against them over and over until you unlock the full deck -- that will make the game significantly easier.

As you unlock decks, I recommend removing the non-essential cards, particularly if they don't suit your play style and strategy. This will also reduce the amount of lands, so you have significantly fewer total cards, which means you're more likely to draw a rare.
