Is Mask of the Betrayer any good?
I found the NWN2 OC to be a bit meh, and I only got to chapter 2 or 3 (whenever Sand joins you). The unlikeable cast and the extremely heavy hack-and-slash* put me off.
What's the mod scene look like for NWN2? Do current mods typically require Storm of Zehir to play, or is MotB enough?
* I was playing a fighter / raging berserker, so I was planning on some heavy combat, but there was still too much for my liking.

I've heard that MotB is the best expansion, I've beat OC and I'm in the middle of SoZ, I'll probably pick up MotB at some point, spare money is quite uh, not sparing right now for me . Ha. :(

MotB is to NWN2 as Hordes of the Underdark was to NWN1. Much better plot, some fun twists, and much more fun combat. But it is still combat heavy. My Warlock had a much more fun time in MotB than NWN2 itself, if that helps.
Also, the cast is a lot more unlikeable, but less stalkery (seriously, the elf was creepy). So that is a plus.
As far as mods: Honestly, I never saw any user-made modules worth grabbing, mostly because the NWN Toolset is so much harder and non-intuitive to use. So no idea on requirements.

Thanks Navagon and OmegaX for letting me know me that the retail version now has SecuROM patched out. I knew that had happened with Neverwinter Nights. I just assumed that since Obsidian did the development, they'd never remove SecuROM.
Does anyone know how GamersGate is allowed to sell NWN2 (with D&D 3.5) when GoG can't seem to get NWN1 and ToEE due to the Hasbro lawsuit, which is, from what I understand, Thou shalt not sell D&D games unless they are the blessed 4th edition (and don't compete with D&D Online, of course).

Essentially GOG won't stock anything that could be pulled in future for legal reasons. Not after TOCA 3 and Colin McRea 2005 were both pulled at around the same time over licensing. They want to ensure that we'll always be able to download games that are purchased here and they came dangerously close to losing that ability with the aforementioned games.
Given the legal issues between Hasbro and Atari over D&D, I don't think that GOG would touch those games with a bargepole right now.

I'm new here, what's the story with TOCA 3 and Colin McRea 2005? I searched the archives, but I can't find anything about it. Did the previous purchasers get to keep it? Sounds like a bad scenario any way you slice it.

Yep, they've added it today just because I wrote them about. They didn't noticed it wasn't in the GG offers, as it is on Steam, Impulse, etc.

There were some licensing problems with those games and they had to be removed from GOG but previous purchasers are still able to download them AFAIK. This also happened to Operation Flashpoint and ObsCure and at least in the case of ObsCure one GOG staff member stated that they were trying to deal with the legal issues in order to get it back.

It works on Vista. I had to delete the music though, otherwise it would crash constantly.

Yeah, we got to keep it. I got TOCA 3 and I can still download it. The problem us with licensed use of cars, parts, etc. One or more of these deals had expired, meaning Codemasters could no longer profit from it and they had to pull the games from sale. It's not something Codemasters wanted to do, I don't think. It was just an unfortunate decision to release the games here and one I don't think GOG are keen to repeat.
Also note that Obscure lived up to its name also, thanks to a Sum41 track on the soundtrack which also hit legal difficulties. I think there were others too.
Oh and about NWN2: while the auto-patcher it comes with still works, keep in mind the fact that it takes about 14 months to get the job done. It is an Obsidian game after all.

I didnt know Obscure was removed form Gog. That's a surprise to me.

If these licensing issues are a problem, I wonder how many games GOG won't have access to because of this? I guess it's another drawback of selling old games. Unless the entire game is the creation of the developer, it can have a limited shelf life.

Yeah, IIRC it was pulled due to licensing problems with the soundtrack. However, if you purchased it prior to be being removed from sale, you can still download it from you account page.

Damn. Just realized Storm of Zehir doesn't come with NWN2 Gold. Bummer.
So, has anyone actually tried both UFO Extraterrestrials and UFO:ET Gold? Is it worth getting the former at a much cheaper price, or does the latter offer irresistible new features that justifies the heavier pricetag?
