Is it THAT good?

Well, it's pretty good.
It's basically the same as all the Traveller's Tales Lego games, but it's probably the most refined version of the formula and has a fairly large open world.
If you like that but don't like Marvel all that much you can also look at the Game.co.uk sale which has a couple of the Lego games in it including Lego Batman 2 and Lego Lord of the Rings which also feature open worlds but with DC and LotR characters respectively.
And I suppose it's not really the sale of the century since it's been in equally low sales before so it's more hyperbole and enthusiasm really :P
I do agree they're great for all ages though.
