Torchlight is somewhat comparable. In fact TQ could have benefited from the loot selling pet. I'm a bastard of a hoarder and won't pass up good loot if there's money in it.
But Torchlight has a completely different atmosphere to it. Whereas TL has an almost casual feel to it, TQ takes itself more seriously and takes its influences from mythology (specifically Greek). More like Sacred in that regard then.
But yes, you should play Diablo 2. Despite its flaws it's such an oddly compulsive game.

One might argue that their games don't lose very much value. I actually got lucky and bought Diablo at the store the week it came out. Never heard of it - bought it anyway. I had a 10base2 network in my dorm room. Got pretty good at networking (the cables kind), and was able to get a real job from my experience with it.
Never bought Diablo II. Borrowed it from a friend. Got to about the third level (welcom to the jungle) Thought it was too much of a clone of Diablo I, and of itself and went straight back to it. Plus I was hooked on the Diablo Hellfire expansion and playing as a Monk. I think I eventually finished Diablo II, but it was quite the slog at the end. Can't remember another game that bored me *while* I was playing it. Check that - Dungeon Siege, towards the end was about the same as Diablo II. Except that I couldn't even bring myself to finish Dungeon Siege. Ah well.
Who owns the rights to Hellfire? It was published by Sierra - but since it hooks onto Diablo, I'm betting the rights reverted to Activision/Blizzard. Doubt that'll ever see the light of day again.
Those were the days. Oh, and if you haven't finished Diablo I first, do it - otherwise Diablo II might not make much sense. There's only 16 levels, so it should only take about 4 hours, right? Assuming you get your hands on some Godly Plate of the Whale...

I overheard someone say it's rather repetitive, and the cannon aiming is totally wonky. No swashbuckling, either. So it is somewhat of a limited pirates knockoff. But it is very pretty (from screenshots), and gets mixed/slightly favorable reviews on metacritic. So, if you can find a demo, try that first.

Well, as with my shitty luck, Thief: DS will not launch. Oh well, I'll test it on the other 2 machines in the house.

What OS are you using? I just tried to reinstall a retail copy on my Win7/64 desktop and the bugger just crashes. I will be trying various tricks to get it to work, but the point is that it's certainly not down to a GPU deficiency.
