Meh, I'm going to have to settle with Serious Sam Gold due to the restriction on Riddick >_<. Atari are such wankers at times, well, all of the time.

Navagon: Bioshock is meant to have had its DRM patched out of the retail version. I don't know about D2D but I have the Steam version and aside from Steam reliance, it's clean.
A misconception. The retail version of BioShock has had the activation limits removed, but it still contains SecuROM, still needs to activate, and still needs the disc in the drive to play.

All I saw was that the activation limits were removed. Which is my major DRM peeve. Although it does seem that it only needs to be activated the once now.
So the Steam version remains the least problematic then. After the £3 I spent on it, I should think so too.

soulgrindr: ok, so it appears that i can finally buy bioshock from japan (the steam deals never worked here). But what's the deal with Direct2Drive/Bioshock and DRM, clients, etc?
Also, anyone know anywhere doing good prices on Mirror's Edge or STALKER (digital & international)?
Navagon: For STALKER you're best off picking up a retail copy from an online store. Play.com has it for about a fiver. Just be prepared to extensively patch it. Great game though. DRM-free. Also, anyone know anywhere doing good prices on Mirror's Edge or STALKER (digital & international)?
D2D can't tell the difference between $ & £ so there's about a 166% markup on their UK games. They also have install limits on every title. So they're not so great for people with finite drive space or if you're inclined to format every now and again.

Well, i went for it and bought it anyway... it's only $5 and i've been meaning to play it for ages. I have a big pile of games to play anyway.
if i was in the UK or US right now, retail would be the way to go. gamestracker says i can get mirror's edge, dark messiah, stalker, bioshock, etc... all for well under 5gbp. unfortunately i'm in japan atm.... and i haven't found a reasonable way to pick up western retail games over here.
So i'm limited to digital distributions (when they aren't region locked, like many are...)

And how is Bioshock working out for you? Does it come with DRM or activation limits? I want to buy it but no way in hell I'm feeding the SecureROM beast.
