You can pause SOTS battles at any time to issue orders. Strategic game is the closest I've seen to an update of original MOO gameplay, though AI diplomacy is too weak. Battles are 2D with limited ability to use Z axis for maneuvering. Battles have a strict time limit, which is generally good but annoying when attacking planets, and no way to end a stalemate early versus the AI, which is always bad. Fleet management in combat takes a little getting used to as well.

Hawk52: Any opinions on Sword of the Stars and Crusader Kings? Both appeal to me as a strategy gamer, but the RTS battles in SOTS kind of worries me.

You can also set the fleet to an AI strategy and let it make its own decisions, or move the whole fleet in formation rather than try to micromanage it. But you might feel overwhelmed when replacement ships start warping in.

Hawk52: That sounds good, but I've honestly developed this weird mental block with RTS games. I can't explain it, but even with pausable or manageable real time, my brain immediately feel like it's overheating and overwhelmed.

But you might feel overwhelmed when replacement ships start warping in. One final question. All the LP's I've seen heavily suggest you should play the game with pre-established alliances. But can you play the game like MoO with dynamic alliances/wars as the game goes on? I'd prefer dynamic alliances, but I guess I could deal.

You can play with dynamic diplomacy. I'm not an expert on the game, so I don't know what makes pre-established alliances better. The whole diplomacy system is clunky and impersonal.

Why is it that NFS games are always more expensive in Brazil? I want to pay 5 bucks on NFS Shift, not 7,50! Is it asking too much for it? X__X

yeah, I was thinking of that for civ5 and trade some gogs in return, it's $20 for me, but then 12.50, the whole 50c thing, it's too much bother, besides, looks like it goes on sale pretty regularly anyway. :)

Exactly. Also it is not the best promo. Civ 5 was cheaper at GG and GMG already. Although I must admit it's a very good game and it might be hard to resist :)
