For me, that would be Spore. I enjoyed it back when it came out (I was fairly young, too), but things changed. Not even the space stage does it for me, anymore.

If you were fairly young when Spore came out... well I could be your father 0_o....
But TBH I can't really offer anything. Sure, the games I played when I was young were a lot more primitive. And I probably wouldn't play them nowadays. But I don't feel they were overestimated at their time (like Spore IMO was).
*goes play SimEarth*
Well, turning 20 very soon. I would classify 12 as fairly young! :D (Considering what this site is about, probably most folk around here could be my parents)
I was lucky with my brother. He's 8 years older than me and always brought "new" games to our house. (by "new" I mean a few years later from release, but in Romania that's how things went, when it came to gaming)
Some of those titles would be: Civilization 1 and 3, Colonization, Settlers 2, Captain Claw and Hercules, Starcraft Broodwar, Diablo 2, etc...
That's how I got to love games from before my time. You should go play some Dungeon Keeper!
