I finally beat Grand Theft Auto V today after diving in and out the last 4 months or so. It's a fun game and I love the series, especially for its satire, but good lord toward the end I was just forcing myself to finish it. I knew I was close from checking a mission list so I didn't want to drop it again, and I was eager to remove 75GBs from my SSD, but it felt like work, not fun. The game just dragged on too long and had too many filler missions and annoying moments.

Which games have you loved but still felt like finishing them was perhaps more trouble than it was worth?
Well, all the GTA games (I have never technically finished 3 and 4 because the final missions were such a pain in the ass), and pretty much every FPS I've ever played because I HATE BOSS BATTLES.

Did you play IV?
I loved it when it worked but that was a crap shoot. The game froze constantly especially during long drives so I pretty much took a taxi everywhere. I thought it was my system but a lot of people suffered it.

I want V but I can't take what I went through with IV again. Even when it ran, knowing it might freeze at any second kind of took the fun out of it.

If I hated finishing it then I wouldn't say I liked the game, regardless of how I may have felt in the beginning.

Monster Hunter World was one of those recently. The bullshit multiplies as you progress through higher ranks.

Never heard of it. Where did you get it? Console?

Yeah. The PC port got delayed to the end of the year so I just got it on PS4 instead. It's somewhat niche in the west, but it's a massive franchise in Japan.

Looks like they're making a movie out of it, but we're derailing.
The Witcher 2.

Comparing to the first one (and later the 3), the end just felt rushed and finally the whole game feels just a filler for the next episode.

But it was still impressive visually and short (for an RPG), so it turned out ok and not forcing so much myself to finish it, and I still like it.

Did you ever play Quake? Because that final boss battle is the easiest boss battle ever. Telefrag...

I've played 2 and parts of 4. I honestly don't know if I ever finished 2.
I NEED to finish 4.
I adored Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time (not on gAg or PC - it's a PS2 game) for the most part, but good LORD! I don't know what they were thinking on that final dungeon. What a boring and uninspired slog it was! Except for that, it was really a stellar (heh heh) game!

So you've never played and finished the original Quake? You need to remedy that ASAP.
Oblivion. The main quest story ends up being kind of a drag later on. Plus once you finish the main quest, ALL of the oblivion gates close permanently. So I inevitably end up delaying the main quest more or less indefinitely, and am much more likely to restart or play a new game than to finish my current one.

BG2 suffers from the same "main quest drag" to a lesser degree once you get into the expansion. But that's mostly because on the whole, the ToB content is not nearly as good as the SoA content, and it's extremely linear. Except for Watcher's Keep, which is fantastic and IMO the whole reason to play the expansion in the first place.
I really enjoyed Divinity: Original Sin.

But I felt some of the puzzles and quests were badly designed in the latter part of the game, almost ruined it for me.

Thankfully the sequel seems to have a much better end game so far, well I think i'm nearing the end anyway.
Divine Divinity. Great open world action RPG right until you get to the last area, where it becomes a pointless hack & slash game.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines

The final part of the game was a little bit to action-oriented for my taste.
