Oh super yes, the sound of a ship's engines when you zoom in on it is awesome: https://youtu.be/f_bANBOZioY?t=75

What is it with noises like that though? Today I heard a big ass generator starting up in a shopping mall and it made me all giddy with excitement. I'm starting to think that I'm in the wrong line of work :P

I'll be honest, that's pretty incredible. Almost makes me want to play the game right away!

System shock 2 being so ambient you needed to link the same video twice?
But is it ambient sounds? The soundtrack works well, yes. And you can hear enemies creeping around as well which will make you sneak down corridors hoping nothing is about to jump out at you until you find a health item, or ammo.

For me I always equated "Ambient" sounds with small sound cues, not music or actual "actor" sounds, but more just background flavour, dripping of water, wind, rattling of chains and such. Maybe I'm way off here.
Great vids! Oknytt and Chains of Satinav seem especially awesome, and both are even on massive specials at the moment

Ghostbreed: Doom 3, (first) Dead Space, Stasis, SOMA, Outlast, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (once you get it working at all.)

tinyE: all of the Tomb Raiders

Ghostbreed: He asked about ambient sounds, not boob physics. xD
I'd go so far and say that most ( good ) Horror themed games have strong ambient sound quality, since it adds so much to the atmosphere.

And did the old Tomb Raider games even have any kind of boob physics? :P

( Or any simulated physics, for that matter. )

No, no, I think you're right. Of course, SS2 has that background flavor you are referring to along with other ambient soundtrack happening in the background besides the enemies sounds, voice logs and music. But I don't like to be very strict with forms. To me "Ambient" feels like environmental sounds, like OP says "the sound of leaves rustling in the wind, winds howling across frozen plains, a creaking wooden structure, machinery/engines in a spaceship etc", mixed with ambient music like Mark Morgans' work on Fallout and Fallout 2.
