Guys, I'm planning to buy a game, either it is a singleplayer or multiplayer game, that has a character creation in it. Can someone please list the names of games here on GOG that has that feature? I don't know why but mostly I'd rather choose to play a game with my own character in it rather than games that have us play the game's set character throughout the whole game. Thank you in advance!

Spore
Spore: creature creator
Impossible creatures
Well first off what kind genre are you interested in?

If you're into RPGs then check out the following games
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2
Neverwinter Nights
Neverwinter Nights 2
Divine Divinity
Divine Divinity II
Fallout
Fallout 2
Mount & Blade
Mount & Blade: Warband
Shadowrun Returns
Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall: Director's Cut
The Elder Scrolls: Arena
The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall
The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind

If you're into open world/sandbox GTA style games then check out...
Saints Row 2
Saints Row: The Third

I've played them all and can confirm each has character creation and customization.

The most customizable in terms of appearance is Saints Row 2 and Saints Row: The Third, they're some of the most customizable (again, in terms of appearance) on the entire market.

I'm more into turned base tactical and strategy games. I guess Shadowrun Returns would do.

I would also try Saints Row 2 if I had enough money. Also, do Saints Row 2 and Saints Row: The Third have any relations somehow? Or are the two games completely different from one another? Thanks

P.S.: I forgot another question that I needed to ask. Are the three games that I mentioned earlier well optimized? I can still bear with small fps drops, but not huge ones.

Saints Row: The Third is a direct sequel to Saints Row 2. However you can play Saints Row: The Third first as it doesn't refer to the plot of Saints Row 2 that often. It's also set in a new city with new big bads to face, however the main characters (The Saints) carry over.

Shadowrun Returns ran flawlessly at max settings on my laptop with an Intel i3 2.50GHz processor Intel HD 4000 graphics card and 6 gigs of ram. Saints Row 2 runs perfect on the same laptop, and Saints Row: The Third runs perfect...on low settings on that laptop, heh. So I would say that all three are well optimized.

Just be sure to buy Saints Row 2 here as the Steam version is the original slightly broken PC port which runs in fast speed. GOG managed to fix that bug, you can fix the Steam version yourself too (I have), it just takes a little bit of your time and a mod.
Spore and Impossible Creatures are not on Gog as far as I know.

I was impressed with Neverwinter Nights character creation. I've made a Dwarf with an Axe, Conan, an Asian Kung Fu chick and a olden days Super Hero who I finished the game with, he even had a cape. Also rouges, druids, mages, assassins...

It is a Dungeons and Dragons game though, you'll have to learn THAC0 and stuff, might not be for you.

Morrowind also has great character customization options, but honestly you don't spend a whole lot of time looking at your character rather than playing it. But you can shape and grow your character however you want.

@bad_fur_day1
technically you gave birth to them. :P
Sims series

Spore series

Saints Row 1-2

The Movies series ( They have a StarMaker side program to create stars and you dress them up in the main game )

Later Harvest Moon installments ( I don't remember exactly which titles )

I think Dragon Age does a handful of customization as well
Ultima games
Wizardry games
Might and Magic games
Bard's Tale games
Dragon Wars
Forgotten Realms games (Gold Box, Eye of Beholder etc)
Realms of Arkania games
Age of Wonders
Master of Magic
Icewind Dale games

Jagged Alliance 2, at least with the 1.13 mod, has a surprisingly sophisticated character creation system called IMP which you can use to create your own custom mercenary. Of course It's not nearly on the level of most rpgs. Apart from that you still play with the existing roster of mercenaries, which is huge, with each having his/her own personality and some really liking/disliking each other.
The Gold Box games (from Forgotton Realms Archive Collection 2) might be a good fit for you. The combat in them is turn-based tactical combat, unlike the combat in Eye of the Beholder or the Infinity Engine games.

I'd be a bit wary of Saints Row 2; I only know the Steam version, and the GOG version is supposed to run better, according to some, but I've also read a few users report the same or similar issues that the Steam version has about the GOG version, so there is no 100% guarantee that it will run perfectly fine on everyone's rigs. The Steam version suffered from speed issues which made driving awkward, and from occasional crashes. Best check the GOG forums for SR2 to be prepared before buying.

Apart from the usual suspects in the RPG and Open World genres, there's also URU, the puzzle adventure game which allows you to create your own character.

I played it with the gentlemen of the row.mod, ran perfectly. However, I don't see how saints row fits character creation. Ok you can choose what your avatar looks like, but its just cosmetic. At heart its just a ridiculous.action shoot em up GTA clone at the end of the day. I would have thought any RPG allows you a lot of character customisation, clue is in the name.

Several GOG games that aren't officially supported for Win8 run perfectly on my Win8 rig; that doesn't automatically mean they will run perfectly fine for everyone, and no matter how many people say that they had no issues with a game, in the end the risk is with the buyer, that's why I recommend taking the negative reports (found in the games' subforums) into account as well. The Gentlemen of the Row mod somewhat fixed the speed issues in the Steam version and made the game playable for me, but it didn't prevent the occasional crashes (which can be quite annoying in combination with the checkpoint system). SR The Third is definitely more stable on PC than SR2.

Character creation can mean all kinds of things, including cosmetic changes for a character with fixed stats as well as stat changes for a character with fixed look, and everything in between. The OP doesn't specify whether they set greater store by looks or stats, or both, but to me it doesn't sound like they're looking for RPGs like Gothic or The Witcher.
