very few countries even have royalty anymore, and before you say the UK, the king and queen are figure heads, they hold no political power, that belongs to the prime minister who is the actual head of government, monarchies still exist in certain countries in the middle east, Jordan and Saudi Arabia being the two biggest off of the top of my head.
and long live the queen is a good one,but I cant think of any others off the bat.

secondly, the queen is still the head of state and has the power to have governments formed in her name (among other things).

oh, and power actually resides with parliament and the house of lords for most things.

not a fan of the monarchy myself. Crusader KIngs 2 pretty much revolves around you and your dynastic lineage (and getting and maintaining power).

I broadly agree. Theres plenty of times in the last ~10 years the Queen could have stepped in and said "FFS NO!" but she didnt, and thusly has made herself useless in the process.

No, we had a whole war over the "divine right". Didnt end well (for anybody i suppose).

There's alot of games, however mentioning these is major spoilers for said games.

You can add Dragonsphere to the list.

iirc you play as the king in Dragonsphere, though it doesn't have much impact on the gameplay.
You can also become king or queen in Dragon age: Origins.
Apart from that I can't think of much right now.
And personally yeah, I'm very much in favour of the restoration of monarchy, becoming king of Germany ("Morolf the magnificent") has been a long-term goal of mine for some time.

EDIT: Have never played them myself, but can't you also become king or queen in the Mount and Blade games?

There's actually a decent number of classic JRPGs that do this.

Dragon Quest 2: All the main characters are royalty. (Some later games in the series also have the main character as royalty, but that often isn't revealed until later in the game; DQ2 you're the prince right from the start.)

Final Fantasy 5: One of your party members is the princess of the kingdom, but that's not even the whole story here. (Some of the other Final Fantasy games have princes or princesses as party members, but generally only for a small-ish portion of the games.)

Romancing SaGa 1: Albert is the son of royalty.

Romancing SaGa 2: You control the emperor/empress, and once they die (or a timeskip appears) you get to choose an heir.

SaGa Frontier: I *think* that Asellus is a princess, but it's complicated (and also queer, which is unusual for the time the game was made).

SaGa Frontier 2: Gustave is of royal lineage, but is kicked out after it's discovered he has no anima and therefore can't use magic.

Sword of Hope 1 and 2: You're a prince here.

Worth noting that some of these situations involve the king/emperor (the main character's father) becoming corrupt or going missing.
