This game is the original Mass Effect.
Yeah, no. Advent Rising is a disjointed, opaque, overrated, over orchistrated Halo wannabe that tried to be Max Payne at the same time. You don't even fight alongside aliens for most of the game, nor are any of them under your command.

Part 1 of 1 of a supposed trilogy whose ridiculous lead up killed the publisher, developed by a well seasoned studio that had developed to that date: No other games; which would lead a long life to develop a grand total of...one other game.

You want the original Mass Effect, try Star Control 2 or Starflight.

Plus, the association with OSC.

Warloch_Ahead: It occurred to me that games that have aliens in them are often about how humans are killing them because the aliens are jerks, but even in settings where the humans are advanced enough to have space colonies, they never seem to integrate with or assimilate any alien species they come across. The worst part is the aliens that are being fought are diverse in species for gameplay reasons, but the humans are just a bunch of dudes that maybe have robots. Barring Mass Effect and any Star Wars/Trek games, what games are there that have you fighting alongside aliens as allies and compatriots?
I think, people always kill alians, 'cause there won't be any interests of playing. They try to show us that people always win.

Universe at War is about aliens trying to save humanity from alien invaders, and the Human resistance fights alongside aliens.

Forgotten Realms or Oddworld is fantasy. In Anomaly Defenders you are aliens being attacked, In Looking for Aliens they are everywhere, if you consider old gods as aliens then in Pharaoh, Zeus with Poseidon, and Emperor, you have "visitors" in your towns, In Hunie Pop there`s one alien girl, in Spore you can fight againts robots alongside aliens, Unreal Tournament deathmatch? Startopia? ... plus all above and curious to know more ; space tag looks interesting
