You can get it here https://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/ if you want to try it. Works great for me.

Other possibilities: one of the civilization games, FTL, Master of Orion, Disciples 2, Deadlock : Planetary conquest, Settlers 4.
And then there is a whole swathe of browser based games. Most are horrendous but there are a few good ones.Three that come to mind: Cookie Clicker, A Dark Room and Spaceplan

Start playing the Forgeign Exchange market, or online selling, double your income - well your already playing games at work, may as well make some money...
IF you want to start trading, do yourself a favour and start with one of those trainers first. It is basically a game where you trade with toy money but in the real market. It takes several months to see if you have any knack for it. Many banks offer the service for a fee.

Games I play when I want a short break:
Unreal Tournament 2004, this one I do not mind quitting or alt tabbing out of just about whenever.

uhmmm, I was sure there were more but I am drawing a blank right now. Tetris, Jazzball, all kinds of solitaire used to be coffee break games for me but not any longer.

I hope you work in an environment where you can't harm people, like not in a train station.
That is a good point. One of the largest recent train accidents in Germany was caused by an operator playing games.
TIS-100. I was actually seen playing it during working hours but didn't get caught.
CS1.6, UT99, UT04 and Q3 as "all" office computers will handle those just fine. Still popular if you want a quick match against your co-workers or somebody else.
OpenRA
CNCnet

Any puzzle games. BaSS, Dig, Spacechem,

Alpha Century

Fallout.

Worms

Factorio

Scorched Earth - THE mother of all games.

Mahjong

Snes9x (with a game of course). As soon as you move out of the windows focus it pauses.

The Adventures of Captain Comic

Sim Tower and Fish Tycoon :p

Infested Planet, Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville, 1849: Gold Edition, Kingdom Rush games (or other tower defense games). But you'll probably need to reload the last save if you forget to pause. Maybe Jagged Alliance 2 games? Perhaps they are a bit complex to play at work.

BTW, what tower defense games are on GOG, anybody knows? Can't remember any except Kingdom Rush.
As someone in an engineering firm, I would definitely say if you're in a professional setting, where you are tempted to slack off in any significant fashion.... don't, just don't. It's one thing to take a 3-5 minute breather and socialize and read a little, even smoke break, it's another to risk getting yourself invested in a game or a significant amount of time b#ll$&itt^ng. It doesn't reflect well on you if you spend more time on your leisure than you do on your work. And my office has seen people trying to order internet hookers and downloading movies (which wound up costing our firm $50,000, with the guarantee of a firing for whoever did it again)

lol, I hope they ordered some for the yearly holiday party!
Stardew Valley can be set to automatically pause when the game window isn't active :)

I once knew a guy working as a night guard in a storage place where they had nothing valuable, only boring stuff, and he was allowed to play games to keep awake :)
