taawa: What is the manual work needed to build a GOG release when Steam release is already out?
avatar
eiii: Build your game against galaxy and test the result, a lot of additional work to support a minor platform, compared to steam.
GOG does offer a wrapper for steam API, so in theory there is no requirement for a separate branch for making a build.

Though there's also no requirement for approval of a patch...
And I have seen Devs claiming it was very annoying to push patches to GOG because of the manual verification process for patches.

Your comment made me think of all the crap quality games and how having an instant update could be a vector for malware. But a manual verification for offline updates, would act as a protection layer. As well as dissuade a would attempt, knowing someone has to provide approval.

nml97: As I wrote already, It's not only single day delays, there are more things to this.

First off, it's a regular feature for Shiro ( Northgard developers) to delays updates to Gog builds often, and not by just one day, there have been times where it's been 10 days or even more.

timppu: Unless it is a crossplay online multiplayer game or a very broken indev game that needs frequent updates, I consider a 10 days delay quite ok. As long as the important updates come.
IT IS a crossplay online multiplayer game, therefore anything but same day + same time patches across all stores versions is unacceptable.

Northgard GoG.com version is advertised as such, featuring crossplay multiplayer with Steam + other stores versions. That is the reason why I bought it here on GoG.com, along with some of the many DLCs, rather than on Steam.

But a year ago I got fed up with delayed updates and lacking features and I was forced to also buy it on Steam -.-

As for being a very broken indev game, well, it has turned into one. Northgard was once a somewhat polished game, with a few long standing bugs, broken and/or toxic part.
But for the past year developers have sped up addding features and reworking systems, this has thrown stability, performance and playability down the drain. You can see proof of this in the Steam recent reviews rating for the game, it has gone from very positive to varied.

I have this picture in my drawer at work with the subtitle: Dear Lord, please grant me the ability to punch people in the face over standard TCP/IP...

Or in another words, you were not forced to do anything, you had the choice to put the publisher/developer on your boycott list until they redeem themselves in your eyes, but instead you chose to reward their tardiness by giving them even more of your money and this is exactly the reason why we have this thread in the first place, because far too many gamers act like you do.
