taawa: What is the manual work needed to build a GOG release when Steam release is already out?
avatar
eiii: Build your game against galaxy and test the result, a lot of additional work to support a minor platform, compared to steam.
GOG does offer a wrapper for steam API, so in theory there is no requirement for a separate branch for making a build.

Though there's also no requirement for approval of a patch...
And I have seen Devs claiming it was very annoying to push patches to GOG because of the manual verification process for patches.

Your comment made me think of all the crap quality games and how having an instant update could be a vector for malware. But a manual verification for offline updates, would act as a protection layer. As well as dissuade a would attempt, knowing someone has to provide approval.

nml97: As I wrote already, It's not only single day delays, there are more things to this.

First off, it's a regular feature for Shiro ( Northgard developers) to delays updates to Gog builds often, and not by just one day, there have been times where it's been 10 days or even more.
avatar
timppu: Unless it is a crossplay online multiplayer game or a very broken indev game that needs frequent updates, I consider a 10 days delay quite ok. As long as the important updates come.
IT IS a crossplay online multiplayer game, therefore anything but same day + same time patches across all stores versions is unacceptable.

Northgard GoG.com version is advertised as such, featuring crossplay multiplayer with Steam + other stores versions. That is the reason why I bought it here on GoG.com, along with some of the many DLCs, rather than on Steam.

But a year ago I got fed up with delayed updates and lacking features and I was forced to also buy it on Steam -.-

As for being a very broken indev game, well, it has turned into one. Northgard was once a somewhat polished game, with a few long standing bugs, broken and/or toxic part.
But for the past year developers have sped up addding features and reworking systems, this has thrown stability, performance and playability down the drain. You can see proof of this in the Steam recent reviews rating for the game, it has gone from very positive to varied.

I have this picture in my drawer at work with the subtitle: Dear Lord, please grant me the ability to punch people in the face over standard TCP/IP...

Or in another words, you were not forced to do anything, you had the choice to put the publisher/developer on your boycott list until they redeem themselves in your eyes, but instead you chose to reward their tardiness by giving them even more of your money and this is exactly the reason why we have this thread in the first place, because far too many gamers act like you do.
I would to report two small tentative changes to the spreadsheet, if it is still getting updated.

* Little Big Adventure: as far as I know, both Little Big Adventure Classic games are up-to-date with the Steam version right now. The old 'Enhanced Edition' was renamed to Classic some time ago when the Anniversary patches dropped and all updates since then have come to both the GOG and Steam version.
The only true missing thing for us is an additional 2015 build of LBA1 originally made for mobile phones that is available as free-DLC on Steam but not on GOG as far as I know. But the 'Classic' updated version and the original versions should be fine for both games, so maybe you could consider removing this one from the list?

* Lost in Play: the Windows build is several patches behind the Steam version, while the Mac version is up-to-date (as this one was released along with the last Steam patch). The game is not unplayable in the current Windows build, but there are quite a few graphical and visual glitches that can show up during a playthrough and I think it's fair to report them here.
As an additional personal point: I bought this game on D1 back then and I went to the Discord to talk to the devs. I really liked it but I was very bummed when I reported a couple of bugs to them, specifying I was a GOG player, they fixed them and pushed the patch on Steam, and when I asked them when the patch was coming to GOG, they outright told me they were not going to update the GOG version.
Again minor things, but, you know... still not exactly the reply I wanted to hear, you know :/

This is actually pretty bad from them, is always such a disappointment to see devs say this.

Very disappointing, although the reviews here at GOG are very good and you as a customer at GOG have taken the trouble to report errors. If developers don't respect that, then that's a disgrace.

It's also a shame because I have the game on my wish list and now with a 60% discount it's in a price range where I'm happy to snap it up. I'll also ask Discord in advance, maybe they'll reconsider if they notice that there are other interested parties :-)

Edit:

This will probably be more difficult than expected. Unfortunately, the Discord link on Happy Juice's homepage leads to an "invalid invitation" :-(

I'm not going to get annoyed about it now, it's just not worth it to me, but I'm not going to buy the game either. Unfortunately, it's now on my no-go list until perhaps an update comes out.

It sounds like they outright removed the Discord, as I can no longer find it on their Twitter or website (I'm sure I found it them through their social network profiles back at the game's release. I left the Discord on my own accord a year after the game's release (just because I became a lurker and I tend to remove server I don't participate in that much). So yeah, I didn't realize the Discord was gone, apologies.

Even though I'm certainly not happy about this situation, I would still recommend you at least keep the game in your wishlist, just in case something like an even steeper discount comes out in the future. This entire situation is indeed strange (the fact that the Mac version is up-to-date while the Windows version is not is incredible) and disappointing, but I still fell in love with the game when I first played it and this issue with the devs and GOG was not enough to ruin it for me. Though I also have a big interest in modern animation and animated TV and web shows, so that's maybe bias talking, but still... the visual glitches are annoying, but not game-breaking at least.

But yeah, if you and others decide to avoid it just because of the situation, I certainly won't blame you for it at this point, 2+ years after the game was first released.

it would probably be better to contact gog support in this case. If the Mac version is up to date then there is no reason that the windows version is not. They obviously have the email of the publisher/developer. Maybe the dev will change his mind if gog contacts them.
