Hello!

What are some games that scared you as a kid, but you realized aren't so bad as an adult? For me that would be Doom 2. In the 90s I went over to my cousin's house in the summer to play it.

One level that sticks out is Dead Simple. I remember finally managing to kill all of the mancubi, and the arachnotrons appeared. Doom was a fitting title, as that's what I felt as I could hear their mechanical parts moving, even in the brief moments when they weren't around. And I dreaded turning every corner. It eventually came to a point where I just ran out of the room. The way I see the game now is a lot different. I think the pixelated sprites from the first two Doom games are adorable.
Thief Golds haunted levels. Now I love them, there my favourite type of Thief level, thank god for fan missions
Alone in the Dark (1992). It scared the sh!t out of me back then. And I have finished the game about 3 or 4 times, there was a rumor that alternative ending is possible. Not scary anymore, but good game still. Sometimes I think it's best lovecraftian game ever made.
Too bad that the next two chapters weren't even close to original in any aspect.

Dead Simple is probably my favorite level in an FPS. The soundtrack for that level always pumped me up. I have to admit though, playing in the dark with headphones, Doom had more than it's fair share of scares. Especially if the Cyber-Demon or the Arch-Vile appeared out of nowhere!

I only played the demo and it scared me too... this was when i was... 12-14, so yeah....
I also nominate Thief. I was showing my kids and thought it was boring and not funny at all.

Friday the 13th on NES can still give me good jump.

Besides those, nothing scared me as a kid or young adult videogame wise. I never understood the scare factor in Doom.
Not too many games outright scared me back in the day, although that's probably because horror and other dark themes never appealed to me as much as fantasy, science fiction, and warfare. I did get brief glimpses of the macabre on occasion, like when I tried the demo for the aforementioned Alone in the Dark. I remember playing the Blood shareware back in the late 90s and being somewhat on edge about gargoyle statues coming to life. Of course, after nearly two decades of playing the retail version, I view every Flesh Gargoyle I encounter as little more than something I can gib with a well-aimed bundle of TNT.
Yes, i would hv 2 agree with some that Alone In The Dark was kinda scary 4 me back then even though the graphics were not as gd as they r now. Well, not exactly that scary as in hv nightmares abt it but yeah it is 1 of those that i wld say that hv a lasting impression on me when i was younger.
The original Resident Evil scared little me to the point that I was not willing to play it anymore. At least for a while, anyway. Fast forward 1-2 years later and me and my friends were speedrunning the shit out of it, while constantly joking about the game's legendary voice acting (particularly in the beginning).
