The Chronicles Of Riddick : Escpae From Butcher Bay

Not only is it very much like playing a movie it's also utterly brilliant.
Oh definitely Wing Commander IV
Carmageddon - Death Race 2000
Speedball / Speedball 2 - Rollerball
Smash TV - The Running Man
Crusader: No Remorse/No Regret - RoboCop, Star Wars, 1984 (thanks, TV Tropes), with some shades of The Terminator
Flashback - They Live, Blade Runner, Total Recall, The Running Man
Total Overdose - Desperado, although nowadays it's also somewhat reminiscent of Machete
Jackie Chan's Stunt Master - Any Jackie Chan film, really

By the way, I also heard some people make the argument that Max Payne 3 is essentially a rip-off of the Tony Scott film Man on Fire.

Indeed, very much Man on Fire, I'll add that to the original post.

bad_fur_day1: Thanks, I didn't realize that game went anywhere near that type of thing, it didn't infer that at all from what I saw of it, maybe they were trying to keep it a surprise, muchly interested now.
It's a very mature and rather dark crime thriller, which could as well be a film, and breaks with most of the usual video game clichés. There's all kinds of memorable and unexpected scenes which make you think "OK, I've never seen that in a video game before". It's probably just as well if you don't know too much about the story and content of the game before you play it. Either way, I can definitely recommend it, as long as you don't mind the idea of a game which focuses on story-telling and atmosphere, over complex game mechanics.

I'm a fairly adaptable gamer, enjoyed Her Story as much as Arma 2. As long as it does what it does well, and it seems Heavy Rain does that. Except that my PS3 crashed... No Ki No Kuni or Heavy Rain or Last of Us for me right now. -.- F**k, f**k, F**k.

Also a big dark crime thriller fan, looks up my ally.

Alpha Protocol - pretty much every action movie about agent going rogue.
The Longest Journey. Perfect sound acting, perfect story telling.
Perfect Dark - It seems to be a lot of Bond-influence there. Agents, spying, gadgets, and so on :P It's made by the same developers as Goldeneye 64, so that could be why.

InfraSuperman: ...
Also, it has one of the greatest endings in film history.
Despite how long it's been since I've last seen the film, I do still remember the ending. So at the very least it's memorable. :D

Aww, I still have my PS3, but don't use it much these days, because I'm spoiled by GOG and the convenience of my gaming PC.

It definitely has its share of great games though -- I wish they'd just release most of them for PC. Fuck exclusive releases. :(

And I agree, I can appreciate most game genres myself. I think it's mostly a matter of having the right expectations & doing your homework before you purchase a game. When people hate on games or certain genres, it's usually because their expectations for the game were unrealistic or because they expected it to be something completely different. That doesn't necessarily make it a bad game, though.

No problem. Games based on movies are just as good as games that are like movies anyway. ^^
