AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected
It looks nice and there's *some* humour and creativity in it, but by far not enough to make me want to play on with all the repetition. The gameplay would be slow and repetitive already without the rogue-lite spin, but the latter kills it for me. Your collected items are persistent across playthroughs, but your progress in the game not so much. And you don't just lose it on dying, but on quitting, too, without the game ever warning you about it or making it clear what is saved, if anything at all, and when. If you play through the first area, defeat the boss, move on to the second area and quit or die, next time you'll have to unlock the way to the boss again and defeat him another time. There is some slight variation in the dungeon layouts and area bosses, but not enough to ease the frustration. And there is SO much pointless walking (or running, which isn't that much faster). After a while leveling up means you can skip the way to the boss on your new playthrough, but you still have to repeat the boss dungeon in order to get to the next area, so until you unlock a bunch of stars (I didn't figure out what unlocks them), you can expect to repeat the first dungeon and boss a lot. And the combat is so uninspired and imprecise. It's not difficult but it bores you to death. Plus, you don't actually level up in game by progressing, but only *after* you die. Anyway, the cute graphics lured me in but sadly it's just not that much fun to play.

Not really. The level I'm talking about was frustrating for me because, although I knew where I needed to go, and what I needed to do, actually doing it(or trying to) was just giving me a lot of stress, and sucking the fun right out of the game.

The Uncertain: Last Quiet Day: I got it as a freebiie on Steam and was reminded of its existence because it's been later published on GOG. The game is reasonably cheap too. I like adventure games. I was not convinced by the main character, a self talking robot.
[spoiler]
I spent a lot of time trying to interact with a radio, even relaunching the game, because I thought there was a bug. For some reason one had to look at a wardrobe before interacting with the radio again. A phonecall from a second robot and its rediculous voice were too much cringe to take for me and I quit the game.

Pass.

Beyond Divinity.
I just didn't like it, camera goes of the focus so you need to bring it back, then at the random times after you kill some enemy you will be killed by sth, really didn't figure it out since it was completely random, and that's the main reason, I mean I should save before every single enemy I kill since I don't know if my character will be killed or not by some spell or sth that triggers after you kill an enemy.
It is again, save save and save, I really shouldn't think that much about the save, I should enjoy the game and not thinking about save.
I will try it once again next year.

i had the same with kings bounty cross roads yesterday, after some attempts to made it to the 2d island, with every opponent you meet at the same powerlevel and me already low on cash because i just needed those new shoes, not to mention those pirate ships that overpower you with at least a factor 2 i finally found a spot where i could beach, grab some leadership flags have some nice little opponents that won't cost you to much money, found an objective, a scroll, in my delirious happiness also decided to plunder some treasure chest only to find it was an ambush... ah well, at least for my next try from the last save i know now which places to avoid!I just didn't like it, camera goes of the focus so you need to bring it back, then at the random times after you kill some enemy you will be killed by sth, really didn't figure it out since it was completely random, and that's the main reason, I mean I should save before every single enemy I kill since I don't know if my character will be killed or not by some spell or sth that triggers after you kill an enemy.

Be known I officially quit it with all Zork games! Not that you should care, all right. I tried to revisit the 3 graphic adventures I bought here on GOG years ago and they are a mess. I think nostalgic reasons are what can make them tolerate them. I don't consider the Zork series backlog anymore but just bad old games I wish I had tried before being convinced by enthusiastic nostalgic reviews. All of them seem to be a step back in game making when they were released. The humour that seems to be of big appeal to the fans doesn't work with me and they are a big unplayable mess I'm not going to force myself through in an age when I can play much better and user-friendly titles, and with better puzzles and stories. The second title, which is darker and less "zorkish", is known for the absurdity of its puzzles and its instadeath just by clicking something. In a point and click game, go figure. I remembered well why I quit them before. The third one is where I went further and I really wanted to like it, but honestly I can play better stuff that doesn't need me to guess absurdities and is more intriguing nowadays. Well, this was quite the rant!
Also I have quit a clicker game on Android that is based on Lovecraft otherworldly creatures. I was enticed by the cool graphics, into a sick mechanism of a "game" trying to make you pay to skip the grind, because grind is all there is to it. I felt ashamed of being caught into that mechanism and of course I didn't purchase anything - not that I could atm, tbh. It would push me to leave the game on to the point I couldn't do anything else for 2 days with my phone, and in the end I took the decision to delete it for good. Now I understand better how people can fall for these addictive mechanisms, and spend on such garbage as much as a new AAA title to unlock everything in days and not months of waiting times to buy new buildings oops, "minions", to harvest more money, ehm, "souls". I realized what made me fall for it was the lovecraftian skin on what could have been another city building clicker game. I'm not giving its name because I don't want anyone to fall for it, it's even worse than DRM, it's a complete lack of respect of the player's time, life and money.

Tiny Bang Story (Android): the nice graphics made me want to play this hidden object game. I was tempted when it was on sale on GOG but didn't have any means to buy it AKA empty bank account. So I gave it a go when I started my Google Play Pass trial. Some puzzles are really boring and uninspired, the worst are the "arcade" game, that kind of worked inside Machinarium and CHUCHEL, but here are just a chore. Too ugly, long and slow, and with instadeath, and not optional. What made me stop is being stuck for days in the same level, just to find out by reading and watching a walkthrough that some event is not triggering as it should, that's why I can't progress. Maybe the GOG version would have been a smoother experience, still this is too much hassle for a casual game and I feel I've lost time I could have spent on Trueberbrook or else from the Play Pass until I have it...so goodbye TBS!

Sorry, but it just fails to live up to the magnificence of Terraria. Tons of great ideas, but the overly large and mostly uninteresting planets starts to take its toll. I imagine I'd have liked it a lot more had I not played Terraria first.

It gets better later though, and there is some really cool level design to see too, with lots of nods to classic horror movies.
I remember having trouble getting into the game too, back then, and I like SW and DN3D better from the Build-engine games, for the reasons you describe. Difficulty is all over the place.
But the beginning is really the worst part of the game, IMO.

I suspected as much, seeing that I hated the pitchfork and the first opponents - zombies and rats - the most. I guess that's another reason to not scratch it off the list completely. But for now I will finish Amid Evil and Hedon instead and then maybe take a look at Dusk or continue with Doom 2 or the Doom expansion.

Layers of Fear
Basically it is only walk inside changing house without any real danger (no enemies or traps) with some jumpscares (which I hate, horror must be based on atmophere in my opinion - if I jump infront of somebody he will not be scared, but "shocked"). Game has nice graphics, but it is not enough to have fun. After one hour I quited.
