Edward Grabowski's The Blue & The Gray

It was a simplistic top down Civil War game from the early 90s. It wasn't very complicated, but it did have a recruitment system and even an encyclopedia that would list off facts while you played. I literally bought my first computer so I could play strategy games like that. Even before Doom or Tie Fighter, I was getting into PC gaming via historical strategy games.
And now... over 20 years later and wargaming has become the tiniest of teeny tiny niche crowds in video game land. Grognards are one step away from joining the flight simulator gang down in the basement.
