Hello,

I started playing settler 3 on Windows 10. Unfortunately, the games does not support the resolution of my desktop (1440p) The result is, that several windows on my desktop are resized to the resolution of the game and moved to upper left corner of the desktop. This is quit annoying, as I often have many open Windows on my Desktop(s - using virtual Desktops as well)
Is there any possibility to either scale the game to my Desktop resolution (graphics driver setting maybe or Windows setting) or disable the resizing of the other windows, while playing full screen games?

I certainly did investigate, but didn't find a solution to this problem until now.

I've never heard of this before, but it sounds very useful for older games. I'm glad I saw this thread and your post. Thank you for sharing!

Just as a further suggestion, I highly recommend using Lossless Scaling after you've used DxWnd to run the game in a window. LS gives you integer scaling as big as will fit on your screen and basically makes it full screen again.

There is a free demo which includes all of the functionality I mentioned and it will run DRM-free without Steam once downloaded.

If the game(s) run on dosbox, you can adjust the scaling to be 2x or 3x as appropriate to make it larger. (Doing aliasing or bicubic or something REALLLLY slows down the speed and starts to look like a blurry hot mess)

If you have nVidia or AMD set up to scale the image properly then I don't know why this would happen, but glad others had more in depth advice.

Something to keep in mind in the future is integer scaling. For a 1440p monitor it's often great to use 720p with integer scaling set in your control panel, which makes for a crisp full screen image. I use this for games like Fallout 1 and 2 for example, as higher resolutions zooms out too much.
