Ghorpm: AI War Collection ...
Very many thanks for this wall of text. I now that this game is not for me - but I now have a nice gift for a special friend of mine who will be all over this game when he gets it!

You are welcome :) I was trying to be informative (but without spoiling anything) to encourage people who may love this game to give it a try and warn those who probably won't. AI War became one of my favorite games ever but I'm sure many people won't enjoy it. Fortunately we have many games to choose from :)

You were very informative :-) The perfect game for a one of my friends. Too bad Xmas is over and I already game him Mount and Blade...
Sadly no PC games as I just finally got a new laptop. However, I did beat several console games (360 and 3DS).

Just curious... why don't you think you'd enjoy AI War?
Ok, games I finished (and played) for the first time ever in 2014:

.The Witcher
.Bastion
.Thomas Was Alone
.Beyond Good and Evil
.Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
.KickBeat Steam Edition
.Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons
.Dear Esther
.The Banner Saga
.The Stanley Parable
.Sine Mora
.Crimzone Clover - World Ignition

Games I replayed and REfinished in 2014:

.Tomb Raider - Legend
.Half-Life 2 (and its episodes)
Rogue Trooper: Great third-person shooter with some fantastic art design that really captures the feel of a completely foreign world. I've not read any of the comics that the game is derived from, but I will certainly seek it out. The game seems to allow a stealth option, though I'm not sure how feasible it is. Another fantastic part about the game is the cutscenes; the cinematography in them is better than I've seen in a game in a long time - it looks rather cinematic.

The Swapper: A mysterious space puzzle-platformer with some interesting discussions about souls set in a failing space station. Very good atmosphere and another game with good art design, everything is quite dark in the game and lends to the unease you feel when playing.

Klumpen0815: The graphics and sounds are awesome for the time, movement is fluid and if anybody knows a jump'n'run for C64 with equally fluid motion, I'd be interested.

Ghorpm: I'm not sure if it really fits to your description but Dead Zone was the first thing that came to my mind after reading your request for recommendations. And it has really nice music ;)
Thanks, seems good and will be played.
Risk of rain solo 104 minutes of bullshit hell >:(

freedom force
stalker 1,2,3
shovel knight

yeah guess many other things took up time but risk of rain was my only game for a while due to the sheer toughness and fun it has

damien: I also read almost every post for the exact same reason. I find the more unbiased and helpful even much more so than game reviews on GOG game profiles.

moonshineshadow: This! I am always looking over this thread and reading the reviews here, normally they are very helpful :-)
Me too! And it also sometimes makes me discover games I didn't know or interesting add-ons, like that one for FarCry, with which I'll certainly give the game another try, since I couldn't be bothered to play long on my first try! ^_^

Austrobogulator: Hey, just a heads up: someone else will have to continue this thread next year. I've had a good term as President of the Games Finished thread, but I think it's time for someone else to take over in 2015.
Well, you accomplished an amazing work and I think everybody will agree to say that you deserve all our thanks and praise! ^_^

I hope somebody with pick up the torch next year!

First of all - it's real-time. I usually suck at these type of games (if they're not as slow as the RT part of UFO/X-COM).
Also Ghorpm mentioned that the learning curve is pretty steep at the beginning, and TBH - I just don't have the patience right now to "work" to enjoy a game. My gaming time is very limited ATM so I need games that provide easy access and quick progress. I don't mind if they're long - as long as I have the feeling I'm steadily getting somewhere. I finished Two Worlds 1+2 (reviews somewhere in this thread) this year and are near the end (I think) of the main game of Divinity 2. But I don't play games like flight sims anymore (as much as I like them) because they require you to learn them before you can enjoy them - and I just don't have the time for that if in the same time I can make real progress with another game.

Let me recommend you one more game, namely Demon's Kiss. It's less about running and jumping, more about fighting but it deserves to be played and was/is mostly overlooked (it was released in 1989 which can explain why it was unknown). It's the first game I've played with dynamic music - every time you start a fight with somebody the music changes.

Much obliged, those games are very nice to play on my OpenPandora and I'm on vacation next week.
Bardbarian

Cute game, has a grindly ios feeling and i almost expected to find a gold for cash shop there. You run around summoning units and using power ups to beat waves of enemies. Not very deep gameplay, reasonable game for light mindless gaming. Not too long.Get it only on sale if you are interested.
