I'm curious how much overlap there is between people who added Daggerfall Unity - GOG Cut to their libraries and people who [later] found Daggerfall & Arena to be missing from their libraries.

Completely identical, at least the offline installers have identical checksums. No idea about the Galaxy installations, though I doubt they are any different..

I'd say it's an issue in GOG's database - the change of the games as "bonus" to "free" might have necessitated a new database entry ... which cascade-deleted the old versions from our accounts as the system "refreshed" them, but never gave us the new one for whatever reason.

How much of an overlap I have no idea, but I have read the removal being reported for both those who have and haven't claimed the DFU. I doubt the DFU has anything to do with it.

I had to rebuy them too. I will contact the gog support. I don't like to lose games on my library like that even if they are free
avatar
AB2012: Apparently they seem to be missing for many people since they recently got changed from "Free when buying another Bethesda game" to simply "Free".
When they went separate several weeks back and some people's libraries were effected by that, I checked even though I could see my game total hadn't changed. They were still there and remained there until a few days ago.

In that time I have constantly been buying new games, and my library was never effected in regard to those two Elder Scrolls games.

So something done by GOG a few days ago, when the Summer Sale finished, changed things.

I've not been manually logged out in all that time, still haven't been.

---------------------------------

I doubt the two games were uninstalled from the OPs PC. It would likely have just been listed title entries in Galaxy were auto removed ... one of the perils of that bloatware program.

I didn't claim DFU at all so far, yet the originals that came with bathesda game were removed. I hope that nothing else is affected - just those 2 games. Such things weirds me out tbh.
From the sounds of it, it very much seems a glitch. This is a guess, but i'll give my theory.

They they added the game(s) as 'free' but, and then were updating the databases. This would be to removing one ID to replace with another ID. (This is done with an SQL command, possibly 2 or 3 depending on the steps required for authenticating it). Though when you think about it, when they delist something they just make it invisible/unpurchasable and leave games ID's alone, unless they do something like renaming Fallout to Fallout Classic or some such thing...

What happened? Could be something that didn't get rolled back, got interrupted, or maybe something funky with identifying users or a field that wasn't filled in correctly in which when it went to update the row instead it didn't get updated and is now pointing to nothing which then it pulls your games up it just skips over the invalid entry.

Another theory is when you purchased your Bethesda game(s), you got the game(s) and you didn't get the 'free' games added in the receipt (but it was added to your cached current list of games anyways). This would mean when they did a refresh rebuilding everyone's lists, the game(s) missing would just disappear (And all metadata to the game, like tags you added, etc are just hanging loose on the DB). If the game wasn't available for free at that point yet you'd have to submit a ticket to get the game re-added to your library.

Sounds logical. I don't think there's anything nefarious here.

They could have tried to fix it by then trying to re-add to people's accounts, but they probably would have bluntly added to everybody's accounts (cue ridiculous screams from certain users about how GOG is disgracefully adding things to their accounts without their permission and this is the worst thing in the world) rather than going through and adding to those accounts that had the games already.

I think the main misstep here is not having told users what has happened. Of course, it's entirely possible that they don't know something has happened if a support ticket hasn't been raised.

... because that's what GOG stands for now. Good 'ol Glitch :P.

P.S.: +1 person affected by the mysterious disappearance of Arena and Daggerfall.

My first Bethesda game was Quake 1 which I bought on December 2015, bonus games Arena and Daggerfall were added to my account respectively. Those games were installed and played a few times, last time I installed Arena on 26 Jan 2022 through Galaxy client, I use it only for download / update purposes.

I'm 100% sure that on May they were on my account and that they were removed some time in June and only after I added Daggerfall Unity free game I noticed how they were removed for another GOG user who posted in the game thread.

Were they removed before Daggerfall Unity or the next day I don't know. My GOG account history has no trace of old Arena or Daggergall games (checked before adding free games again) and unfortunately I deleted all my emails since 2015 so I can't check there either. But when those 2 games were re-added they retained Game Tags I put for them, e.g. Arena still had my tag "Must Complete" which I added long before the incident.

Mine are gone, too. I cannot find them in the orders history. They were in my library since at least 2016.

Arena and Daggerfall last seen (and offline installers downloaded!) on June 15. 2022.

I bought 'Daggerfall Unity - GOG Cut' that day. I do not use Galaxy.

I just checked and had the same encounter yes. The tags previously added are there still but the games were, before being re-purchased, nowhere to be found in my account while they were before.

Possible. But for a free game, unless you can't redeem it i don't think it would be worth raising a fuss for. They'd probably just say 'well it's free now, go claim it'.

Though if there is an issue with the DB they should try to make sure it's clean, Databases can act oddly if they are corrupted for any reason.

lazydog: Cant seem to find a receipt for these games
avatar
Ice_Mage: Yes, there was no order receipt when they were added along with the purchase of another Bethesda title. There is one when "buying" them now.

They are the same. Your installers are 4 years old. Arena and Daggerfall were updated 3 years ago with cloud functionality.
