Just noticed while searching both but some games seem to be much cheaper on steam and I'm not sure why. First off both are in the correct currency. Two games I noticed were Inside. Inside is C$27.09 on GOG. On steam it is only $21.99 CND. Also the Shadowrun games. Shadowrun Hong Kong Extended Edition Deluxe - $40.69 CND on GOG, $32.99 CND on Steam.


Anyone know why this is?

The publishers decide the prices.
There was a big hullabaloo some ways back when Botanicula was released here at a release discount (I think 10% off or something?) while at the same time being going for less than a few bucks over on Humble Bundle.

GOG sets their non-USD prices according to more-or-less-current exchanges rates, updated about once a month; Steam, on the other hand, apparently uses fantasy-land exchange rates, given that they never bother to update them (or so I've been told). That'd be a large part of the reason.

Steam also lets at least the big publishers do whatever with pricing, no matter how insane

Hunch has it right. Steam's Canadian prices are based on a historical exchange rate from when they first started accepting CND while Gogs are updated regularly based on the current exchange rate.

While the dollar is strong and CND weak Steam's prices are more favourable, but if the situation reversed Gog should give better prices.
