Harrison Bergeron
not to mention.. Limes Inferior

Ghorpm: These two (especially Limes Inferior) are newer than those mentioned above. Sure, they are great books too but you have to draw a line somewhere ;)
Ayn Rand managed to write a dystopian novel called Anthem. It's full of her Randisms but hey it's short and somewhat better than her other novels :D

Perkele Merkele! Why don't the Germans come up with some kind of legislation to ban Merkel?

I wouldn't normally care as I am not German, but unfortanately the German oddities can unfortunately affect other EU countries as well, e.g. becoming EU wide rules, or the game publishers themselves deciding not to publish (or to censor) something in the whole EU region, just because of the damn Germans.

I seriously doubt Merkel or any other government official has anything to do with this, they don't really care about videogames and have a lot of other things on their plate. It's probably some lawyer trying to profit from outdated laws that noone has bothered to fix or update, or the companies avoiding any kind of risk of getting in conflict with German law, in a move of preemptive obedience.

Probably. If the German government actually cared about this, Steam & others wouldn't even be allowed to sell regular USK 18 titles without any kind of proper age-verification.

I'll try to get it as I don't know it at all :) Thanks!
Hey, i used the titles that i can combine succesfully in a phrase;)

Brave New World is practically the beginning of what is considered a trilogy (includes Brave New World, Brave New World Revisited and Island). So you might want to check all the three books in the series.

anothername: Steam does not "remove" games for fun and we can be sure that it will hit gog soon enough. Now that there is a thread & talk about it probably sooner than later (remember Dying Light? Released for all, massive talking about how that gog is the only selling in Germany -> BAM game gone). I strongly suggest if you had any bare interest in getting one of the listed games then get it.
This will probably hit gog as well, I agree, but I don't think the removal of these games has something to do with the government, I'd say it's an overeager lawyer trying to push his pointless agenda.

Totally possible. Be it gov or somebody else with an ego problem because of a too small wiener the result will most likey the same: Those who do actually have anything to do with it/care about get the shaft.

Yeah, I was referring to German governments who seem to think laws like these are a good idea. I didn't really mean that Merkel (or anyone from her government) had just now decided to enforce the law.

The real problem is not that someone is enforcing such a law, the problem is that there is such a law to begin with. Vote responsibly, or if that fails, revolt. To the barricades! Viva los enquealosdos!!!

Cavenagh: Seems germany can make their own laws, when others try to [UK] they cry. we're not in line with the rest of the european union

hypocrites

:(
To an extent. :P They get tired of that after a while. I have some pictures of a town square in Italy to prove that. XD

gog should quickly implement an age verification system to make sure they can continue selling the titles here. big market opportunity to get all those disgruntled germans away from steam ;)

lol, vote who? there aren't any alternatives.
i guess the only meaningful vote would be the parody party "Die Partei" :p
maybe that would send the message just how useless the current politics are.

revolution sounds fun until you get to the part where you need to put someone in charge afterwards. Then you are back to the current situation.

I think he means more than the age gate, maybe he means a form you type your personal data in?

If so, no thanks.

for example GiroPay provides the option that your bank verifies your age for the shop as part of the payment.
The only data gog sees is your name and your age. And your bank already has your personal data anyway.
