NuffCatnip: And they are still adding games to the list. :/
Gersen: Chaos Engine??? Are you sure it's not a bug, I can understand banning something like postal or manhunt but Chaos Engine it's probably as violent as the average Zelda and AFAIK there is no Nazi in it.
Even Dark Force is not exactly the most violent FPS out there and I never remember hearing it was "banned" or even "indexed" in Germany.
All of the games mentioned are indexed (selling to adults only, commercials and public selling is allowed if minors don't have access like an adult store) in Germany since years, most of them since late 1990s.
The problem with the index itself is that it takes 25 years for a new rating of the media which could end in the media getting de-indexed or not (Death Wish with Charles Bronson was re-indexed for another 25 years) ... this is longer than most murders spent time behind bars in Germany (a sad but true fact, a life sentence is 22,5 years average here). Publishers can try to get their media de-indexed before the end of the 25 years but it costs money (after 10 years it costs less but still more than 1000).
sunshinecorp: Why stop there? Why not gather the physical copies of the games and burn them in the square for all to see!
*sigh*
I'm sorry, German citizens. Censorship sucks in every form, but I hope you'll still be able to get the games on GOG.
tinyE: I heard they got a script over there that allows them to turn people off in forums so they don't have to put up with other people expressing themselves. :D
If you get banned at the Steamforums you have a specific link which says why you are banned and you also have the possibility to respond to your ban. If you respond to your ban (and if it is no perma ban) there is a chance that you get a perma banned.
