tinyE: I don't see Commandos on there yet.

That seemed to get the most ire in here.

Grargar: Commandos was removed beforehands.
Is there an echo in here? :P

tinyE: wonder what they did.

the guy who wrote the post. Almost sounds like he got suspended or something. :P
I know what the Germans did! :P They allowed the Scorpions to record 'Winds of Change', one of the worst songs ever produced!

And with it, Steam pushes itself (and PC gaming) further into irrelevance in Germany.

A crying shame really. PC has been on a fairly steady decline market share-wise here. Steam largely owes its existence here to the remnant Counter-Strike community (a study, which I need to dig up and will link if I can find it again, put around 40% of German Steam users exclusively playing it), and PC on the whole is pretty much overwhelmingly dominated by LoL, WoW, Sims and Farming Simulator here, although I have it on good authority that Sims 4 also performed very poorly here. This is the country in which PC gaming was once king, and now the PS4 dwarfs it. The casuals are pretty much all about mobile now.

It saddens me that the PC gaming market has gone so horribly wrong in Germany in recent years. Aside from the shift in the games market itself, so many independent hardware shops have gone bust over the past decade or shifted to business IT. When I was studying in Hanover, we had an entire street (Lange Laube for the Hannoveraner out there) completely chock-a-block with shops selling gaming hardware - I was there a few weeks ago, and was shocked to find just one shop left selling gaming hardware there - all of the other shops had gone towards business IT or become something entirely different. Same here in the far North: in the six years I've been living in this city, I've seen four of the five gaming hardware shops shut down.

Actually this happened to my friend as well some time ago. Basically he wasn't able do anything with his account (and steam wallet of course) account was unlocked several weeks later without any explanation nor answer from steam so called support..

wind of change was nothing compared to Germans tutit-frutti '60-'70 movies..

NuffCatnip: And they are still adding games to the list. :/
Chaos Engine??? Are you sure it's not a bug, I can understand banning something like postal or manhunt but Chaos Engine it's probably as violent as the average Zelda and AFAIK there is no Nazi in it.

Even Dark Force is not exactly the most violent FPS out there and I never remember hearing it was "banned" or even "indexed" in Germany.
This should be a big blow towards Steam. "All PC games are there? Screw off!"

Okay, I was fantasizing here. The reality will be "Oh wait, a few games were kicked off the store? They don't have anything of real relevancy (likely because they're not my favorite games), and Steam is king. Screw off!"

Both games were indexed according to this list.

They removed it. :/
I have no idea why, but it's gone.

Oh, Grargars link explains it.

It's quite hilarious that they are removing all these games just now. :P

Why stop there? Why not gather the physical copies of the games and burn them in the square for all to see!
*sigh*
I'm sorry, German citizens. Censorship sucks in every form, but I hope you'll still be able to get the games on GOG.

I heard they got a script over there that allows them to turn people off in forums so they don't have to put up with other people expressing themselves. :D

All of the games mentioned are indexed (selling to adults only, commercials and public selling is allowed if minors don't have access like an adult store) in Germany since years, most of them since late 1990s.

The problem with the index itself is that it takes 25 years for a new rating of the media which could end in the media getting de-indexed or not (Death Wish with Charles Bronson was re-indexed for another 25 years) ... this is longer than most murders spent time behind bars in Germany (a sad but true fact, a life sentence is 22,5 years average here). Publishers can try to get their media de-indexed before the end of the 25 years but it costs money (after 10 years it costs less but still more than 1000).

If you get banned at the Steamforums you have a specific link which says why you are banned and you also have the possibility to respond to your ban. If you respond to your ban (and if it is no perma ban) there is a chance that you get a perma banned.

Huh, I never knew Dark Forces was indexed there. Probably because 'shooting humans' is not okay. I bet if they were all alien scum nobody would have said a thing. Especially since there isn't a single ounce of pixelated blood to be found in the game. Stupid government entity being stupid, as usual.

What's even more hilariously stupid is that its sequels of the Jedi Knight series have not been indexed as far as I can tell, while looking and sounding more realistic. Hell, You can even chop off body parts in those games! Though the last part may have been censored out in the German version if I recall correctly. Still...

The main problem was that in the 1980s the youth protection people took stuff a bit too serious. They changed the criminal code for the glorification of violence and many movies and some games got "banned" because of this. Banned in "" because you are still allowed to buy and own such media but selling is a bit tricky. The other problem is that the youth protection laws are outdated because the politicians missed the rise of Internet nearly completely (as example some areas in Germany have very bad Internet connections and I mean very bad) those laws were designed in the 1970 and sometimes updated as example we still have time restrictions (rated 18 = buyable from 23-6 or 11pm to 6am, rated 16 = 22-6 or 10pm to 6am) which also count for Internet stores in Germany but were originally designed for cinemas in the 1970s.

Then we have the index which is even if selling is still allowed the death for any media because Publishers can't promote their games public as example.
