Sorry for your loss.
I've lost my grandparents and miss 'em dearly, but...kinda hard to imagine my parents being gone.

HereForTheBeer: In the OP it says "I'm interested in owning all the rpgs." In that case the recommendation is simple: buy all the rpgs.
He's asking about systems, not games. He wants to know what platform has a good selection of RPGs and if it's worth buying a SEGA Saturn.

theonlyone.338: 1-Does anyone know which system has the best jrpgs to buy?

2-Also is it worth looking into the sega Saturn and such. I'm interested in owning all the rpgs.
Get a PS2 and you will have so many (J)RPGs that you'll be set for years, since it's mostly backwards-compatible for PS1 games. If you have someplace you can find a bunch of old cartridges, then a (S)NES would also be a really good grab. For portable systems, at least consider a PSP/Vita and a DS.

If you're really interested in owning *all* the RPGs, then you're going to need to at least pick up a Commodore64/128 or Amiga and a Colecovision (EDIT: strike the Colecovision, just double-checked and anything from it I could call an RPG was also available on other systems, like that good old C64) as well, aside from your Saturn and Gamecube and..what was that portable one from the early 90s that tried (and failed) to compete with the GameBoy? First real color system....bleh. Atari Lynx, that's it. Heh.

Tell me more.
Can someone explain Marzookered to zeo? I'm way too tired and after seeing the score of the Indians game I'm way too depressed
Nice RPGs paradise :)

I think that did it? TBH I don't remember that at all. Must have been between my periods of paying attention ^_^

HereForTheBeer: My nephew just bought his own house, and made it a gaming paradise of sorts. I should try to equate to him home ownership with DRM-free, but I don't think he'll be able to see my point through all the Steam in his house.
Confiscate his door keys and tell him that if he wants to get into his own house, he's going to have to call you and present his ownership deed every time before you open up the door for him.

That'd drive home the point methinks :)

zeogold: Y'know, I understand I'm just as guilty of being off-topic as everybody else, but...
Are more than one or two of us going to actually answer his question about recommendations, or are we just going to turn this into a "You over-privileged youngsters with rich parents!" thread?
The OP hasn't yet apologized for being so lucky. I am still waiting.

Not sure if this only about Japanese RPGs or "all RPGs" (no pen&paper)... but somehow I feel PC might be the best bet for at least PS2 era and before RPGs? Considering emulators and all. Unfortunately it would most probably involve piracy as well, but then I think for many old JRPGs the only English versions that exist are fan-made translations as hacked ROMs.

Also when you consider systems like Commodore Amiga etc., finding working original copies of many (floppy) games could become a problem.

Oh right, I am unsure if the OP knows Japanese and ninjutsu, ie. if he could play the original Japanese RPGs as well?

Beautiful! If the discussion ever comes up, I'll use that one. +1 for a great idea!

Marzookered: there is a long-time member, named Marzooker, who would start a decent thread, get a ton of responses, and never post anything else in the thread beyond the starting post. I don't remember him being troll-like or rude or anything like that, though maybe others have a different experience. It was more like drive-by thread starting: start a new thread and never show up again to continue the conversation he started. People noticed a pattern after a bit; after a time some would note "don't bother - it's another Marzooker thread" or somesuch, which eventually turned into simply being "Marzookered".

That said, sometimes life gets in the way and I may have been a bit premature.

While some things will always be hard to deal with, I wish you, and your parents, to have a full, long life before you have to go through this experience.
