I believe the PS3 has Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, which includes all the Phantasy Star games, but you need two controllers to unlock the first one. (That one is also on the Xbox 360 IIRC, but you didn't mention having one.)

Phantasy Star 4 is definitely work playing. The earlier ones might or might not be, depending on your taste in RPGs.
Yeah for some crazy reason you have to beat act 1 of Sonic 2 in two-player mode to unlock Phantasy Star I. The PS3 collection also has the Genesis shining games and a couple of other non-Phantasy Star RPGs

My nephew just bought his own house, and made it a gaming paradise of sorts. I should try to equate to him home ownership with DRM-free, but I don't think he'll be able to see my point through all the Steam in his house.

Y'know, I understand I'm just as guilty of being off-topic as everybody else, but...
Are more than one or two of us going to actually answer his question about recommendations, or are we just going to turn this into a "You over-privileged youngsters with rich parents!" thread?

In the OP it says "I'm interested in owning all the rpgs." In that case the recommendation is simple: buy all the rpgs.

For specific recommendations it would be helpful for the OP to list examples of games he / she has enjoyed and not enjoyed.
