I was going to mention Arx Fatalis but it might be too dark...
Hard to think of games that fit that specific criteria...
Maybe Fallout 3, New Vegas and/or 4? Not sure if 4 would run well though...

I agree with Dragon Age. Also Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader are worth checking out, though they're RTS games

Old guy here too.... i find allot of popular games are irritating and frustrating- what they do in games to make it 'challenging' for most people, can often be frustrating and annoying for us old guys.
Some example of popular RTS games i have not liked because of being frustrating and annoying are Warcraft 3 and Starcraft, Age of empires 2 and 3, rise of legends.
RTS i have liked - Age of empires 1, Total annihilation, Rise of nations, warcraft 1.... often the older version is what i like, and the newer versions become more annoying than entertaining.... *lionheart legacy of the crusader is brilliant*
Battlezone combat commander is brilliant
Adventure FPS - dungeonsiege 2 is brilliant.
Some strategy games that i like are Alpha centauri, Civilisation 2 is supreme, 3 and 4 are ok, did not like 5
Civilisation call to power 1 and 2 are brilliant.
For something different, i love world of warships as a game, free to play, but the catch is that the game is full of blood sucking temptations.

If you like morrowind i recommend you fallout series, fallout 3 and fallout new vegas are very similar in graphics and a cool story too. I also recommend fallout 1 and 2, very very good old games.
Baldurs gate series is also a must play if you like rpg.

I was off on Skyrim talking to a dog (G). Baldurs gate series is also a must play if you like rpg.
Thanks for the mod suggestion on Witcher 3. Bookmarked the link for later.
Downloaded a couple of games (Lands of Lore, Nox, Divine divinity). I think I would have played these on my 486DX. Just doesn't feel right to go back that far.. So thinking of taking a hard look at the Gothics, Fallouts..
Thanks to everyone again (still!)..later..john

If you like old school Eye of the Beholder style party dungeon crawl:
StarCrawlers (sci fi setting)
Legend of Grimrock
Anvil of Dawn (1990's 2D, but nice looking for the time)
Lands of Lore series (as above)
The Lords of Midnight (remake of the 1984 classic by Mike Singleton. Epic in every sense of the word)

You should try Mass Effect. It's a 3rd-person RPG game. Bioshock too and it's a first-person action game.

Thanks again. I think I'm done for awhile. Go through what I bought and then come bacj for a new round of recommendations. Going through these games makes me remember how so many games were on a 5 1/4 inch floppy. 640KB? That's not megs or gigs!!
