mystikmind2000: I never play mods.

I have never once had a good experience with a mod.

Every time, it just lead to frustration - every single time.
The same. I don't like mods. I like only original games which were released by official developers.

nightcraw1er.488: Mods are a bit like sex. At first you will be naff at it. But keep trying, learn some techinques, and eventually its worth it.
Then along comes a little bastard, takes all your money for it, and leaves you with a product not working (that's a child/steam mod workshop analogy).

Get your mods off Nexus or Moddb, follow the given instructions carefully, and most will not only work, but substantially improve the experience. Mount and Blade for instance is barely playable without mods - it was basically an engine. Same with Elder scrolls game - actual story lasts 5 mins, mods add everything into these.
Take big world for Baldurs Gate - this combines both games/expansions, adds in the content which was removed, fixes a load of bugs, then adds a hundred weight of extra npcs, quests etc. I have had a few which didn't work, but not many, and the newer mods tend to be quite professional with installers and such like - take the Dark Mod which was a Doom 3 TC, now its its own installer, no need for Doom 3 at all, just plug your maps/missions in and away you go.

I think, the thing is, if i like a game, then i wont need a mod, if i don't like the game, then i wont be playing it, and hence, don't need a mod! lol

I have some old favorite games that i could mod, but i dunno? Nostalgia or something? I always just like to play the original game.
I believe Brutal Doom was my first real use of a mod ever when I played through its campaign... last year? Well, okay, I guess the 'gun game' for Counterstrike Source can also be considered a mod (and way more fun than the actual CS). Overall though It's just not something I do much.

It's kind of strange that I like the general idea of mods, but that I hardly ever think about using them. *shrug*

I do sometimes encounter things in games that i would love to see modded.... for example, civ5 unit per tile limit is just 2! are you fxxxxx kidding me? seriously? If there was a mod to make it 4, then i would be all over that!
Been playing a lot of and found [url=https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=560988617]Wuss Mode to be even scarier then the original... it let me slowly navigate the enviroment like an old school adventure game (think myst) and the atmopshere was even better.

As the "brute force" way the game has allowed monsters to feel with no consequence of dying this mode allows your mind to wander, and its not a total wuss mode there are many events which still do happen and you can easily die from many many things ^_^

If you want to try it, or any other MOD on the GoG release then you'll need a special launcher for the mods.

Yeah, you are right. But, I prefer to play games without mods.

Not many games are perfect right out of the box, so regardless of whether or not one likes a particular game there is a decent chance that someone has made a mod to fix an annoyance or add some convenience. Ciomalau mentioned a couple examples, things that don't change the game so much as just make some repetitive tasks simpler.

Anyway, worth checking into if you have a favorite game where you'd like to see one or two small things 'fixed'.
Can old half life 2 mods still be played? Was there any problems with the forced updating system?
