Pickle1477: RTS here for me as well. I loved Warcraft, Starcraft, and C&C back in the day, but I would even get rocked by the computer AI sometimes.
My big problem is when it moved into 3D. For some reason I am much better at the good ol '90s classics. But give me a newer one and I suck balls.
Platformers. They are so pretty and have fun music. Then I go to play and die within the first three seconds, get angry and quit. I like to compare it to pears or grapefruit. I think they look so pretty and delicious, but I know I don't like how they taste. I keep seeing them and seeing them, so eventually I buy one and take a bite, then totally remember, "you hate these you idiot".

l0rdtr3k: You enjoy Rumble Roses? I never thought I would encounter someone who also likes the game! All I need now is to find someone who enjoys Senran Kagura as well.
Rumble Roses is AWESOME. All women's wresting with the best wrestling game engine at the time. Really good good stuff.
Do yo-yo's count? I used to be crazy about them, and could even do a number of tricks, but there was this one trick that I simply sucked at, loop-the-loop. I couldn't understand it. It seemed that everyone else could do it :(

As for video games, definitely fighting games with a console controller. It's impossibly awkward for me. But don't let me catch you unawares in mortal kombat if I can play on the keyboard... with REPTILE!!!

I really enjoyed it despite negative reviews. As a fighting game,is very solid with tight controls and a good roster of character.
And also works as a fanservice game.

Have you tried Rayman Origins? It's gorgeous, has a great atmosphere, and isn't that hard for the most part. It's pretty forgiving in as much as 'dying' is concerned. Each level has something like 3 sublevels, and when you die you only go back to the beginning of the sublevel you were busy with, which is never far. In particular, you don't have lives that can run out.

And Platformers - Mario, that jump on level 4 is impossible you little jerk.

But FPS I can handle mostly, beat Farcry. Above average Hitman, play on hard usually. Above average Total War, play on hard usually, strategy and turn based. I'm usually happy to grind a bit in RPG's, I handle them well as well. Stealth, I'm quite a sneaky bugger.

Action games like Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, Hotline Miami and Metal Gear Solid boss fights are tough but do-able. Ninja Gaiden 2 last boss, not do-able.

Horror shooters. Love them but totally suck at them cuz its hard to aim when you're covering your eyes and crying

No I have not, but I have heard they are really fun. Good to know it is really forgiving too, thanks! :)
HoMM-like TBS. I don't know why I can't get into them. I have no problems with your basic 4X (Civ, MoO2, MoM) or tactical games (Incubation, UFO...). But that in that special sub-genre (I count Age of Wonders also in) I continually get my ass handed to me.

Second choice would be third person action games/shooters. I love FPS, but in third person games I continually run into trouble, especially if the camera is not fixed behind the PC. Worst case would be Tomb Raider (series), where really have trouble to recognise where I'm going, aiming... Also Prince of Persia - I love the mood of Sands of Time but I really suck at combat and acrobatics - which are the main gameplay elements...
FPSes, without a doubt. I love me some action and wanted to be good at these games so badly, but I'm just not... I suck at them and have to end up playing most of them on Easy (or, given the choice, Very Easy) to even manage to play them to completion.

Disclaimer: by FPSes I actually mean first person SHOOTERS. I do reasonably well at first person adventures, first person platformers and first person puzzle games, it's just the straight up shooters that I'm really, really bad at.

I try to avoid everything turn-based but there are some games I do enjoy that play that way and, needless to say, I suck at those, too.

blotunga: All of them... I can't think of any genre that I'm particularly good at.
I can't think of any game genre that I'm even remotely good at.
Point and click adventures...:)

Have almost every single one on GOG but I never finish many of them. I always, always get stuck, even in the well known somewhat-easy-to-figure-out ones.

I still love them though and I don't solely blame myself.

LOL, I can relate to that. I sometimes get stuck at the most obvious and easiest puzzles, while I often manage to find the solution for more complex ones rather quickly (if they are not unfair or too obscure). I guess this tells me I often think too complicated.

As someone who has survived the Farcry island of hell, there's some things that might help eliminate some of the twitch reflexes. Take it slow, snipe from a distance before they are aware of you, try to be sneaky and change tactics, run away if it's too much and get a better position, draw enemies into your line of fire, use cover and lean around the edges to fire, crouching makes you a smaller target and elevated positions are tactically superior.
