What is your favorite controller to use, gamepad, joystick, keyboard, make, model, ect. ?

I'd like to get a Unicomp Classic for 7 pounds of keyboard, and would like to give the Steam Controller a try.

I currently have some really old Dell Keyboard from back before Windows XP, a Kensington Expert Mouse, and use a reproduction Gamecube gamepad because my F310 is nackered and my Steel Series was spilled on.

For my joystick, I have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

My keyboard is also wireless and lights up for easy couch or bedroom use. I happen to like my Logitech Precision gamepad, and I prefer it over my Xbox 360 controller when playing a game that does not use analog control. The gamepad is light and doesn't need calibration, and it doesn't have unnecessary features like LEDs or rumble (the latter of which I prefer to do without, actually).

When I got it, it was only $10, but I have not seen it for sale lately.

Edit: Also, worth noting, this is a wired controller, so there are no issues with wireless reception. The one downside is the lack of analog sticks, but I commonly play gems that don't need them.

I own the Steam Controller but didnt mention it as the OP asked for favorites and I cant say its my favorite at this time. It needs work. At first I thought it was great to use as an alternative for a mouse just doing normal web surfing and stuff but every time I exit out of a youtube video the controller stops working all together? WTH?

I also tried it in a few games with generally bad results and actually leaving me not liking the games I tried it on. Its disappointing as I really want to like it but just cant.

Wireless XBone gamepad for my PC and Logitech F310 for my Mac mini.

I don't even have Steam and my main OS is Linux. Guess how I feel? I'm mostly curious.

When a controller is needed, I mostly use a Playstation 1 DualShock controller that I bought a USB thing to use with the computer. It's an indestructible light gray brick, and the joysticks are all or nothing (so no walking slowly in games when using it—sometimes a 360 controller is a better fit), but I love it and use it for as much as possible. I even have an Xpadder profile so that I can put on headphones and use it to control music playback without having to deal with a keyboard or screen. Extraordinarily lazy and wonderful.

Must have had the thing for 15 years, now. Can't imagine any newfangled controller lasting half that long while seeing the same amount of use. You could use it as a makeshift morning star and it'd still function perfectly.

It's obviously meant for racing games only, and I find myself using it far more often than my racing wheel. It also has the luxury of working with every racing sim there is on PC, it's not restricted like a racing wheel is. I even bought a second one of these for my PS3 racing games.

I have an official '360 controller that I use for arcade racing games and my superbike games (MotoGP, SBK). I'm still happy with it, it's functional and has never broken on me despite being quite old by now. It's a high quality controller.

For non-racing games I normally use keyboard and mouse, even with flight sims and 3rd person games.

I would be interested in getting an XBox One controller, but as long as my '360 controller works I probably won't get one.

My main issue, other than aiming, is that the damn Steam button is freaking bright and everytime I leave Big Picture to change settings, it automatically reverses to default (which is very bright) rather than my setting (which is almost pitch black, just one step to the right). Generally, it's best to avoid it when games require some kind of precision aiming particularly in real-time and if it's required to do it fast. Any third action game with tools such as auto-target (Ex. Mini Ninjas) or a strategy game with a lot of hotkeys but not very fast paced works quite well with it (Ex. Anno 1404).

... Huh. Just checked and you're right. I probably misconfigured something a long time ago and just assumed it was like that by default since the face buttons don't have the sensitivity of the PS2 controllers. Given how much I used it for, I probably walked in tons of games and never put two and two together.

I blame video game violence. Also, the Swiss.
