Yeah so i started a LAN game perfectly with no issues... I am very confused here for I can multiplayer all day long without a default gateway assigned. all server farmed multiplayer games are "DRM" as you call it... remember Gamespy? they are long gone and a good chunk of supported games dont work outside of LAN.

Grim Dawn delivered a fully functional DRM FREE experience in the same way other games that uses LAN and a Multiplayer Hub server do on GOG.com. Im very happy with this release.

How would you play games that use GameSpy in a present where that no longer exists? Multiplayer servers shut down all the time, this is no different and not DRM. Multiplayer is a game feature, not a digital right under any law or license agreement. How would you play online multiplayer in a remote site without internet access at all, regardless of the Galaxy requirement?

I see... I swear when I first tried for LAN play, it required Galaxy. But at this point is is not...

Galaxy is a must for online play i still don't really fully understand if it's because of Dev said they needed it or Galaxy is really needed for online play since it kinda acts like a gateway to servers or otherwise the games would have to customized so you can click to play online

Online multiplayer where the game lets you join the game/server without any authentication, possibly even without an account.

So as far as I can tell, DRM-free online multiplayer could be done... but I personally don't care for it because in online play the DRM (=requires authentication and it is linked to your specific copy of the game) actually brings benefits to me, the player, in the form of effective banning of evildoers who try to destroy the fun for other players. If such people are banned permanently, then they can't rejoin either by merely creating a new account, using the same game. So in essence, your specific copy of the game is banned from the online multiplayer.

Same cannot be said for single-player, I can't think of ways how DRM can benefit me there. Also, by its very nature online multiplayer is a form of game that is mostly out of my control, ie. it is no fun if there are no other people willing to play it too. So I consider it as the form of game that will die in time anyway, when all other players migrate to other (multiplayer) games.

That's also the reason why I am less likely to use money on multiplayer-only games.

Direct connection by IP address?

One player chooses "Start Multiplayer Game" and give the others his current IP address, then the others choose "Join Game" and enter said address.

Also, no CD-key checking going on to make sure they're unique.

Galaxy is required because it contains modules/API/functionalities necessary so clients don't have to manually assign traffic/port forward this and that.

So you want direct IP Connect? Good luck. Bunch of people won't be able to play because they can't even set up simple NAT.

Try Hamachi and use LAN play. That's the same as Direct IP connect.

Hating on DRM is one simple thing, mindlessly complaining is a completely retarded thing altogether.
