It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

1) intrusive, I don't want or need it to be loaded in my computers memory on startup. Not only do I not use this daily, but given how poorly its written I imagine its a lovely door for hackers.

2) terribly slow, so very very slow to download. Even its own updates, which it seems to get a lot of, and which I have to sit through since it loads itself on startup.

3) poorly laid out, came to buy an expansion pack and had a hell of a time even finding how to purchase it from the starting screen - given that its main function for gog is sales you really shouldn't have to search around to buy something.

Also found it unnecessarily hard to get to this forum, had to come in backwards by going to 'my posts' of which there were none and then picking community.

Basically the only thing it seems to do reasonably well is show me what games I have installed.

You dont HAVE to use it though - its still entirely optional and should remain so - at least until out GOGbear overlords decide to immanentize the eschaton and eat all out souls! O__________k
Um, well, guess it works well for somebody then.

Seriously, its not that bad, but could use some improvement, Galaxy that is.

Then, perhaps, you could set it not to run on startup. (Options --> Run on Windows startup)

It also runs very fast for me most of time but I am not going to doubt it in not problem for you.
Huh. That's strange. :/ I haven't had any issues with GOG Galaxy.

1. You can change this.

2. I'll give you this one... still needs more optimizations.

3. Eh it could use some work but it's not that bad.

All in all Galaxy has improved with each update, and one should remember it's still in beta and not complete. Really the only bad update I've had is the one from last week (1.1.4) which introduced some bugs... but hopefully they will be fixed in a new update this coming week.

Gee I remember people saying the same thing, even worse when steam was first introduced. Darn my memory for pointless crap!
low rated
1. I don't even. If you don't even know how to manage things as easy as elementary school questions, then you'd better shut up.

2. It's still lighter than Steam's client on startup. It could be improved, but it's being developed for a reason.

3. It could use some polish, but functionality over visual is still the best approach. Would you rather pretty display but no use? I don't think so.
I've had no issue with GOG Galaxy.

1. You can seriously hit a box in the options. How is this intrusive?

2. It honestly isn't that slow.

3. It really isn't that hard to navigate.
You can disable it from starting up..... Kids these days and their smartphones! Can't even learn how to computer=p

1) Eh? Oh!

2) Huh, right?

3) Ah, ok.

Meh meh meh MMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Galaxy is pretty crap currently but from my pov it's better having auto-updates than not. Since I came to GOG I have archived all installers and patches on one of my secondary HDD's and ultimately it just become something I didn't want to waste anymore time doing. Plus it means I could erase all those installers and save space.

Just use browser downloads, no need or particular reason (unless you need to have a sense.of achievement or show your friends how long you play a game) to use it.

Neither have I. I don't use it. So: no issues.
1) Did find how to disable it. Still find it intrusive as I should not have to turn it off on startup - I should have the option to turn it on if I would so desire.

2) Still seems pretty slow to download for me, might just be my perception as I didn't see any way to actually check its speed.

3) I did find how to disable galaxy on startup. Just seems odd to not have all my options/settings/whatever on a menu bar at the top of the window - you know, like virtually all windows programs ever.

However, finding my expansion (POE White March), purchasing it, and clicking 'Install' it did not install.

It appears galaxy is set to "Manual' by default.

So, it automatically loads itself by default, but I have to manually install my purchases by default. Wonderful logic there.

Also, didn't find this explained anywhere - at least not handily anyway - but when I found some option box and clicked 'automatic' it started downloading all over again. Dandy.

At this point I gave up and went to bed. At least it appears to have actually been installed this time around.

Note: The option box didn't actually change to "Automatic" when I clicked it, just froze up and started a new download/

Answers to above replies:

To the person who told me to shut up if I couldn't manage elementary school level questions. I didn't say I couldn't manage to figure out how to get things done in galaxy. I said it was intrusive and poorly laid out, and it is.

Also, as I understand it, the point of forums is for people to voice their opinions.

To the various comments about Steam, I really dislike Steam and have not purchased a variety of things from them because of it. So comparing Galaxy to Steam isn't likely to win me over.

Emachines9643 - I have a smartphone and I hate it. I would be willing to bet I'm probably older than you are also:)

nightcraw1er.488 - only reason I'm using Galaxy is because the manual install was such a pain in the ass I thought I'd try Galaxy to automate it.

I guess it is better than the manual setup here - but better does not mean good.

I really like the concept of drm free games and would like to see it become the standard once again. Galaxy has the potential to make this happen, or have a significant impact anyway.

But by not using basic standard layouts and functionality common to the computer world isn't helping any.
