It was running normally, up until and few days ago. As of now, it cannot connect to servers. I always had windows 7, so the people claiming "it's the windows dummy", are so very wrong (unless there was some recent update to it). Truth is, i changed antivirus many days ago, but the exceptions are nicely done, as per FAQ.

Of course, it would be just the perfect chance to finally abandon the cr@pware. I mean, i had always been interested in standalone installers and never had been a hearty fan of telemetry and shiny baubles, like achievements. Anyway, i have 2 questions here:

1 Galaxi down only for me, or for many, nowadays?

2 Standalone installers contain the latest version of games like Dead Cells, so i can update manually?

PS FU for killing GOGDownloader. Anybody having an alternative download method, would be appreciated very much. I hear 2 people created a python something gog library downloader and manager, can somebody provide links?

Try rolling back to the previous update. Either GOG literally forced 7 users to abandon it or it's a bug. I'm hoping it's just a bug because I love Galaxy and I have zero interest in even TOUCHING the garbage that is Windows 10 on my own PC.
Offline installers should be updated at near parity with the Galaxy version. Rarely I've seen forum posts about offline installers not being in sync with the Galaxy version, but that appears to be uncommon and rectified quickly.

Have you tried temporarily disabling your antivirus and seeing if Galaxy connects?

This forum post lists a few alternatives to manually downloading the offline installers. It's from 2017 though, so the links may be out of date.

I can't help with Galaxy since I don't currently use it, but I have some issue with Team Fortress 2 (Steam) specifically on Windows 7, which does not happen on Windows 10 nor Linux.

When I play and exit TF2 in Windows 7, for some reason it tends to get stuck on the "cloud sync" part. I am unsure if it eventually exits it without being able to finish the sync, or if it just takes much longer on Windows 7 for some reason. I haven't changed anything in Windows 7 for ages, like running any updates on it (which it isn't getting anymore anyway).

On Windows 10 and Linux the Steam cloud sync is finished fine and fast.

So, I am not sure if there is something specific with Windows 7 that now causes these kind of connectivity problems (or something) with various services, Steam and GOG Galaxy included. Maybe these clients now depend on something that doesn't work quite well on Windows 7 anymore?

It could well be a dependency. I don't use Galaxy at all so I can't test for that. For those having problems, try installing the newest .NET Desktop Runtime 5.0.9 and Visual C++ 2022 runtimes:-
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet/5.0
https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/

Edit: You want the .NET Desktop Runtime 5.0.9 installer which includes the ".NET Runtime 5.0.9" (that you don't need to install separately). Likewise for the Visual C++ installers, the older 2015-2019 ones have been updated to include 2022. You only need the newest ones, not both.

Galaxy is nothing but trouble. Even on it's best day, it's essentially malware. Uninstall. Don't look back.

Anyone else confirm they have similar issues? If it's a W7 thing, then it would be rather absurd if Steam had better "old game on older OS" compatibility than "Good Old Games"...

"But, but, but they never promised that, they only promised compatibility with the very latest OS". Yes, we all know the sales pitch. But the way Windows is turning to sh*t with increasingly worse UI makeovers and now arbitrary TPM 2.0 "security" restrictions, etc, a lot of people just don't want to "upgrade" / can't run it anyway. So in a way, if "we only support OS's that are less than 3 weeks old" is increasingly going to be an issue, then Galaxy dependencies are fast turning out to be exactly the same "blocker" as abandoned DRM itself for long-term game preservation vs arbitrary lock-ins of specific (undesirable) OS versions that were never a problem pre-Galaxy (and still aren't for other websites that distribute old games as simple zip files)...

Give me a break. I've had only minor issues and I'm running it on a technically unsupported OS. The worst issue I ever had was solved by a simple reinstall, that's it.

Absolutely, well said.

The GOG GALAXY 2.0 Open Beta requires Windows 8 or newer, which means unfortunately your system is not supported. You can always download your games via the offline installers on your account: https://www.gog.com/account
If there is an update for your title, you will find it as a patch / update as well under the game.

If Galaxy is now broken on Win7 , can you please stop automatic updates, so we'll be able to stay on a working version?
(Also you should drop the fake Beta title, it's a bit ridiculous after so many years)
Using Windows 7 and Galaxy still works for me. Only using it for a couple of multiplayer games and downloading larger offline installers, though.

So you're saying anyone who is running Windows 7 or XP can trigger Galaxy-wide destruction... oh, shi...

The Community Wishlist also still has a beta tag. No reason to not leave it there. That way, they can always just claim it's in beta instead of fixing stuff :P

Just apply this workaround to disable auto-updates.

What about games that can only be installed via GALAXY in roder to get the latest version because their offline installers haven't been updated?
And there're people running Windows 8 claimed they also couldn't use GALAXY anymore after the last updates in GOG GALAXY 2.0 discussion forum. Are you planning a fix at least for them?
Guess I have to stick to the 2.0.37 Beta for now ...

If they are still tinkering with it and releasing experimental builds then it's totally acceptable to call it beta. Regardless of the year.
