For those interested, Quake 3 is now $14.99 instead of $19.99

I'm not sure when this happened, so my apologies if this is old news.

In addition, Return to Castle Wolfenstein now costs $5.99 (from $9.99) and Morrowind now costs $14.99 (from $19.99).
let me just pay half the price of Overwatch for this game from 1999 right now

said not enough people :D

Seems to me like the better option for 5.99 would have been Wolf 3D + Spear of Destiny.

Tell that to Bethesda. Even on Steam, it's still more expensive to purchase Wolfenstein 3D + Spear of Destiny than Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

hmm, price drop directly after the GOG summer sale?

and "accidentally" happening during the steam summer sale?

or are the games differently priced on steam ?

A lot of Bethesda games (including the three mentioned above) had their base prices dropped at the beginning of the Steam summer sale.

Examples include and are not limited to:

Doom 3: From 10 to 5
Doom 3 - Resurrection of Evil: From 5 to 3
Doom 3 BFG: From 30 to 20
Oblivion GOTY: From 20 to 15
Oblivion GOTY Deluxe: From 25 to 20
Quake IV: From 20 to 15
The Evil Within: From 50 to 20
Wolfenstein - The New Order: From 50 to 20

With a mod or two, Doom's actually aged quite well all things considered. Many a game a decade newer looks and plays like shit now.

But Wolf 3D? Not so much. $6 seems pretty steep.

only got 40% discount on steam though
iirc it was 50% here, so the difference is not that big

seems still a pretty shitty move by bethesda.
but then. who would expect anything else from them

Wow, you're right. Guess we could see Doom 3 + RoE show up here for $8.

Sweet! I had pondered buying the Elder Scrolls bundle during Summer sale, but thought it was slightly expensive around $14'ish CAD, with Morrowind around $8.50 or so. After reading the reviews of Battlespire and Redguard both claiming the games were broken and unplayable, at the bundle price I ended up figuring that it wouldn't be worth it, that they may release Oblivion here soon and have another promotion with even better savings, and that the price might also drop as well, and also that there's always a possibility of the USD/CAD exchange rate improving and dropping the price a bit more.

So... I didn't buy it. Now the price came down $5, which means future promos are likely to have better pricing as well. :) Yeah, think I'll wait out the Elder Scrolls titles at least until Oblivion is here, and maybe some time after that too. Got tonnes of RPGs that are 100+ hours each to finish, time is on my side! :)

Also really hoping to see DOOM3, DOOM3 BFG, Quake 4, Rage and other Bethesda/id games possibly show up in the future.

I too think the price for Morrowind is still too high. I may give it another year. Also, I don't care for the other TES games they have here. The bundle did not help.

Yeah, I don't think it was too high per se, but rather just too high for me. If it sells profitably at that price in enough volume, then all the power to Bethesda+GOG for being more profitable in the mean time. Every game is sold on the basis of one's desire to have it versus price though, and for games I'm not racing feverishly to play instantly or tomorrow, etc. I generally overlook in the short term until they come down in price later on.

As such, I think I'll wait for Tomorrowind pricing to pick that one up. :)

I agree with you fully. Pricing is always a subjective matter. For example, I'm sure there are users who did not collect all the free games available on GOG.

I usually set a "target price" to games I am interested in. If I come across the game below that value, I will buy it. When I have a lot of entertainment waiting for me, this target price is usually low. It also varies with many other factors.

I'd say Morrowind is worth around $4-5. Let us not forget that this game is 16 years old, requires a big time investment to enjoy and GOG presents very good alternatives (including the two previous games for free). So I can wait a couple of years with no problem...

Yeah, years ago I would buy games but only the best of the best type games and only few per year. Maybe 2-3 AAA games at $50-60 would be my limit. But when I started buying games again in 2012 and beyond due to discovering GOG, and later the bundle sites, instead of spending $50+ on a game, I was thrilled to buy many games for bargain-bin prices instead because tonnes of games came out over the years that I never had a powerful enough machine to run and I wasn't focusing on gaming at the time so I could take it or leave it.

But once you accumulate a hundred or more games, the more you have the less you're willing to spend on buying more whimsically, and if you're extremely patient and don't have to have something the second it comes out, you might not mind buying it in 1/2/3 years when the GOTY all-in-one version is out for one nice price, so that's what I tend to do more nowadays.

But... I just saw something on Steam concerning Bethesda that really pissed me off. Literally 10 minutes ago. Ok, so at E3 they announced this up coming special version of Skyrim right? Well, previously they had Skyrim and 3 paid DLC available, or you could buy Skyrim Legendary Edition. For those that didn't have Skyrim at all, buying the Legendary Edition was the cheapest way to get it all by far because it came with the game plus all 3 expansions for less than the price of buying the 3 expansions individually if you already owned the base game. But that's another reason I'm pissed at Bethesda.

Instead of treating their customers with customer loyalty and giving them preferential pricing on DLC for being early buyers of their game, they charge you EXTRA for the DLC compared to people who waited it out and bought the Legendary version of the game. So if you own Skyrim from day 1 and never bought the DLC before, it's cheaper for you to buy the Legendary version to get the DLC essentially buying a second copy of the game, then throwing it away because you can't split off the unused spare copy of the game and gift it to a friend or something. Even when these games go on sale, the Legendary Edition is always cheaper than buying the 3 DLC. That upset me so I decided I wont buy the DLC nor the Legendary version of the game unless the price goes way down, even if it is years from now.

So what happens? Back to that E3 announcement... so Skyrim special edition is coming out in the fall and guess what? It's free for everyone who owns Skyrim *WITH* all 3 DLC. It doesn't matter if you bought the Legendary version of the game or you bought the DLC separately, if you own the game they'll give you a free copy of the new version when it comes out. Sounds great right?

No.

Go type in "Skyrim Legendary" in Steam Store's search box. Oh look, it doesn't exist any more. Why? Because Bethesda KNOWS that their free game offer is going to make a LOT of Skyrim fans want to own the DLC in order to get the free Special Edition when it comes out. So what did they do? They got rid of the Legendary version so it can no longer be purchased, in order to force both existing Skyrim owners who don't already own the DLC, as well as new players to purchase the game and DLC at a higher price because the DLC price has always been higher than Legendary. Nice way to screw your fans Bethesda, way to go.

I've defended Bethesda in the past too, but this seems like a total EA/Ubisoft cock move if you ask me. Not only will I *not* buy the DLC for Skyrim at the higher price, but I am thinking of not buying any of their games now and am feeling glad that I did not buy the Elder Scrolls pack here during the GOG summer sale. They're (Bethesda) just milking fans IMHO for every dollar they can get.

However, if it is a mistake or glitch and gets fixed, or if they turn around and do something good and beneficial for their existing customers/fans to come good on it I'd be happy to change my mind, but right now I'm not feeling the love for Bethesda, and I gotta say I've been feeling increasingly warm towards them since they showed up on GOG. This is a real anti-consumer move on their part right now though, and I'm not fond of that sort of BS.

So that'll put a hold on me buying any of their titles on any store for the time being to wait and see what their next move is.

Update: I'm not the only one to notice (no surprise there)...
