Elmofongo: Its less Nostalgia train and more make these games more easily avaliable and introducing to a new audiance.
If these remasters introduce the game to a new audience, that's a nice bonus, sure. But really, it will be mostly older gamers who buy them, so why not just leave well enough alone and release the originals instead?

I'm not complaining, mind you. I love to see these games become available again, but are all these remasters really necessary?

I wanted a Maniac Mansion remake. The other games don't really need one.

Maniac Mansion remaster/remake is coming too so don't worry.

It should be 2 games as one.

I wish I would have bought loom or that better game which had some big headed old school adventure face.
As long as the original is included, I am totally fine with remakes :D

Some fans did a "remake" about 10 years ago if you want to try that one.

*puke**cry**sigh*

I really hope I can get a non-rebastardized version.

It's not even so much that they attempt to "remaster" these games that bothers me, it's that they do it so badly and waste resources on such nonsense that they could instead use to create, uh, new games?

While I think all this remastering is unnecessary (there is ScummVM, after all), isn't Double Fine quite faithful to the originals with their remasters? Basically they simply create a higher resolution graphics based on the original graphics, maybe modify controls a bit, and that's about it?

But that requires creativity and risk. Far easier to just mash a few bits together and created a "remastered" or "enhanced" version of a product.

Seriously, just buy the original and get ScummVM. Keep supporting these types of things is a gold card for them to keep churning out garbage.
Will the remaster revamp or cut the cycle combat portions?

If not then I'll pass.
No matter what you do in rereleasing a classic game, someone is going to bitch.
IMHO I witsh they would just release the original with a DOXBOX/Scummv wrapper, but I guess that "remastering" makes it more sellable to a newer audience.
Problem with the "just buy the original" is that they are not always that easy to find, and the price for them is going up all the time as the original CD's become scarcer and scarece.

I think the offereing the original as a bonus with the rematerered is a good option.

Or simply releasing it separately alongside the remastered one. I mean, every shitty indie game seems to get about three different editions and tons of DLC, all sold as individual items in the store, so I don't see what's so horrible about simply doing that for the classics as well.

There's already a remake of Maniac Mansion, and it's free.  ;-)
