Links didn't take long to find, but I hesitate to post them because they're not from the official site so I can't tell for sure if they're okay. Sorry.

Anyways Frontier has a shareware version that is free to run for a month and with a requested registration fee of £5 if you play longer than that. This applies to at least the PC version, perhaps even for the Amiga. Add a mention of those to your search terms and you'll probably be in luck.

Oh, and you'll need to figure out DOSBox.
Emulation or using DosBox with a downloaded older version of the game won't be hard to find... but as Rixasha says, i hesitate to mention exact steps or post links either...

On the other hand depending on the date, if the Amiga version is better than the PC version then i'd go for the superior version.
I remember my brother playing Frontier - Elite II on his PC many a year ago. I never got into it, usually ended up crashing whenever I tried to take off or touch down. Still have the midi files lying around somewhere from the game. Really like the intro theme

Rather amazed the community around Elite Dangerous hadn't heard of it, considering how passionate Elite fans tend to be. Guessing they missed Elite: Frontier First Encounters as well then?

See PM for hints how to get the Amiga version. Also try glFrontier :-)
Ahh... Docking in a space port to the sound of The Blue Danube...
Those were the good old days.
If you enjoy Elite, I'd like to recommend Wing Commander: Privateer. It's a really excellent game in the same vein.
If you don't mind a modern remake I recommend Pioneer.

He was asking about Frontier, which is about Newtonian physics, realistic distances, gravity - a galaxy/star system simulator really. While Privateer is certainly a fine game, it's very different from this approach.
All you need is winuae and the elite 2 adf from lemonamiga or some site like that, it aged very well

^ I checked it out, and this answer should be the solution. I've only done a few trading runs (systems are a little different) but this game seems to be a pretty faithful remake of Frontier. And it looks rather nice and the autopilot won't crash you into planets like in the original game (it'll actually turn around the ship for decelerating! Something you had to do by hand in Frontier to optimise travel times.)

Recommended.
