What if we could have on GoG every game we had on Steam (as long it's available on GoG of course) free of charge?

Think about the future, GoG would be their gaming plataform, totally taking over Steam, any future game would be bought on GoG, long term run it could work to get more permanent GoG'ers! (more customers...)

Such deal would need agreement from developers of each game I believe, just an idea could be difficulty to pull but just imagine.
What's in it for GoG?

Why would they want to give free games to people?
Unfortunately, this idea won't ever work. Steam wants to stay to be a monopoly, so having GOG take over by such an offer would be like death for the service.

This "thought" has been posted several times before and the reasons are the same.

Nope. Every single game would be bought on Steam because you'd get Steam+GOG there and GOG without Steam here ;) Plus: Lots of gamers love their Steam client (think about the "No Steam, no sale!" whiners) -.-
That option exist for a very limited number of games and is more up to the publisher.
I fail to see the point of this thread, except to boast an idea that GOG is better than everything. *blows on the record* This bastard keeps skipping...

You do realise that quite a lot of people actually like using Steam? The subset who favor DRM free do not seem to be that large. Most people do not care very much, as long as they have games to play.

If this ever happens, what would happen most likely is that the people already using gOg will suddenly have a lot of free games, and most of the people who use Steam will continue to do so happily without paying attention. So all this achieves is that gOg losses quite a lot of monies, get a bit of PR, and Steam continue exactly as before.

Hmm, maybe you're right. However, the biggest problem with GOG currently is that its not really known to all these Steam apologetics and has a lot less games. I recommended someone to see it, and they came back telling me it was the Myspace of gaming. I felt like punching them in the face. So yeah, you're right about that as well.

I can understand your friends logic. It is old buggy and a bit of a mess.

why would gabe give a shit about us? we're small fry. and that would require GOG to stop being DRM-free, OR steam to become DRM-free. steam won't give a shit as long as it's still rolling in money.
If the publishers of individual games want, they can arrange that already, as far as I know. But so far, this has been the case with only a handful of games.
This most likely will never happen since 99.9% of the developers/publishers feel like they should be paid multiple times for the same games.
What if every thread on GOG forums automatically gets copied to Steam, free of charge. Think of the wonders it would do to the communities.
Might work if it went both ways. Meaning if you bought it on gog, you also got it on Steam. Can't imagine any scenario where both gog and Steam would agree to that though. Maybe if some really good hashish was blown into the air ducts of both company's headquarters over a period of time..... nah, they'd never get the contracts typed up even after they all agreed it was a great idea...
