[This is a sticky post, it will be visible in every single page of this thread. It has been published in October 2020.]

Our moderation team decided not to take a side in the discussion since this giveaway thread was created by the community and, as long as there are no forum rules violated, is up to you, dear Gogers, to decide its fate. We will not set giveaway rules, edit the OP's post, nor lock the whole thread.

However, to make it easier for newcomers to understand the situation (about the OP being inactive and other), I will stick my own post right above the first one.

You are, of course, free to create new threads to start anew and make your own, clear rules. At the same time, please stay reasonable when crating them, as multiple new duplicates might make it even more confusing for many Gogers.

That being said, here you can find a post with dxenija's community poll to have better understanding of the situation: CLICK.

At the time of writing, open giveaway threads are:
- Massive Giveaways Blog
- Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic. (this one)
- Updated Itch.io giveaways

Be nice to each other *flies away*

RWarehall: You clearly missed my posts earlier where I specifically spoke about copyright expiration or items offered by the rightful owners for free.
avatar
r-ichi-e: And that's EXACTLY my point - you never really know the files you're downloading are being legally hosted or not. True, you can have your suspicions but in the end you're left to believe what site owner is saying. Because having something download for free is not something special nor uncommon, contrary to giving someone TV set on the street. See http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Good+Faith

Now, IF there are really laws and paragraphs which say otherwise - and IF there are real cases of convicted people based on such law (not only the cases of citizens threaten by perspective of being sued by big corporations with best lawyers available prefering to settle for agreement), then it's a very sad day for such country and citizens that must abide law that in this matter cannot be more distant to Western civilization principles, becoming closer to state of Joseph Stalin wet dream which one of his more famous phrases was "give me a man, and I'll find paragraph for him"

As it's been rightfully noticed this is really offtopic so it's my final message about this matter here.
My last point too. There is a vast difference between "not knowing" and downloading from an abandonware site. Clearly they are not the developer. Clearly they do not have the right to declare a game legally free. And given that abandonware is not a legal concept AT ALL, that copyright continues for 75 years, means you are armed with all the information you need to know what you are doing is legally wrong. Thus, no excuse. Guilty as charged.

And to counter your analogy. IF citizens think they have a right to just take and copy the tireless hours of work put in by others for their own use. And do this for free giving nothing back to the developers. I feel it's a sad commentary on the world. Sadly, this situation is all too true.

zeogold: Since this for some reason hasn't been posted yet, this code will get you a free copy of Constructor here on GOG for 'bout 48 hours, posted on the dev's Facebook page:
ZVSYRAFB
Thank you very much!

RWarehall: Let's be clear, people can call things whatever they want. They can define a term like abandonware. But the fact remains that "abandonware" legally has no meaning. To download a game, you need a contract with the rights holder. So unless the rights holder has specifically released a game into public domain (or the copyright expires which usually is 75 years so will not apply to software for a long time), downloading a title from those sites is illegal.
And if the rights holder has specifically released a game into public domain? How is the game called then?

Exactly that: Public Domain.

Look, y'all, I don't use this thread all that much, but I imagine that there are people who do and would kinda like to see actual updates here rather than having this become the piracy, so can the abandonware discussion please move here instead?:

Edit: Forgot to refresh and was ninja'd by Bela, but here's a thread for it, at least.

Seems to be working. :)
Sorry - cross posting, I posted this in the wrong thread:

SANG-FROID: TALES OF WEREWOLVES

seems to be free now. At least on Steam.
Somehow I can't reach the website of the developer and there is no further explanation. I think they need some publicity before they launch a sequel.

What about the GOG version??? Will there be another freebie on Monday?
Not for me, though, the game is already part of my GOG backlog.

May be later.
Consortium was free on steam and later it was made free on GOG.
Not working for me again :/
I'v tried removing their facebook approval and re-add it again but it still didn't enable the "captcha" thing. Not even a broken icon.

It works for me but I can't get World War III despite the site says there are 3000 keys available.
