Well, that's one of the reasons that Steam became popular... but then it was also because even before that Valve seemingly made the Half-Life 1 engine (mostly?) open source.

tfishell: Because GOG have to devote their own time, energy, and money into releasing games here (especially if there are old games that need to be packaged in DOSBox); thus they're less likely to release free games.
Small developers, especially those making free games, even when they *do* manage to get in touch with CDPR, rarely get a positive answer :

Also, I don't know, but GoG answering that "[the game] did not really stand out to us", while (IMHO) it's still among the best RTS available, including paid ones, just seems like CDPR doesn't even bother to properly review free games...
- while with Greenlight and the way Steam works, they barely even *need* to get in touch with Valve employees :
