Could you give a link? I can't find a list of free games on that site, only a subforum similar to the "massive giveaways blog" thread or the "Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic", but for consoles.

It's maintained by Terry Cavanagh of Dicy Dungeons, Super Hexagon and VVVVVV. Every week, he posts a freeware game that he found. A lot of the stuff he posts about looks like it would easily run on low end computers.

Can't speak for everyone, but a Walmart laptop can often play most of these games if set to the lowest level of functioning.

The Stalker game also has a low resolution addon for low end machines. One of my favorite games. I'd say the only game that is not very potato friendly is the Thief content. That requires a bit of a above average machine. But, I think it may run on a modern low end AMD chip, with no GPU.....maybe.....

Thank you for pointing us to Terry's free game of the week recommendations!

Although I do know Terry Cavanagh since his early free games, and did buy "VVVVVV" within the original release week, I was not aware of his weekly recommendation posts on a separate website.

From the ones I tried already, I do like especially the following free games:
- "Below the Ocean" (reminds me of ZxSpectrum games, but with a novel twist-each time the character blinks, he is being teleported to a different room),
- "Return of the Slimepires!" (an excellent mini-metroidvania with four different endings),
- "Rooom" (a short vertical room-switching puzzle game),
- "Pebble" (a simple, yet pleasant 3D platformer),
- "Out of the Blue" (an escape-room-like maze adventure reminiscent of first person dungeon crawlers), and
- "Dungeon" (a tight platforming rogue-lite, in which the player only finds equipment in every eight rooms)

I'm not sure if this belongs in this thread or not, but I just learned that the old Pinball game included with Windows XP is available for free on the Microsoft Store.

Anything that can access the Microsoft Store can run it, given that you need something with greater requirements than XP to use the Microsoft Store.

So for anybody that missed the Pinball game from XP, have fun!

Edit: I seem to remember the Pinball Windows game was just a demo for a more complete game?

I was just talking to a friend about the old King's Quest game and he mentioned that there was a fan-made remake of the early King's Quest games inspired by Sierra's VGA remake of KQ1.
It's from the same makers of the Quest for Glory II remake, which I played about 10 years ago and never really revisited the site.

I remember having that issue with the Intelivision. Fortunately almost none of the games required reading when actually playing, and what few did have text was minimal.
I just had to get somebody (usually a parent) to read the manuals out loud for me to learn to play the more complicated games like Sea Battle, Poker & Blackjack, Thunder Mountain, or Utopia. I'd include Backgammon, but I was learning to read by then as it was one of the last games I got before cartridges were unavailable and it was picked up on closeout in the bargain bin.
Amusingly I learned to play poker and blackjack because of it being bundled with the Intelivision, and it helped me learn to add up to 21 (well, more like 30) when I was in kindergarten. For some reason my teachers were not pleased when I cited Poker & Blackjack as how I know how to add.
